Wish I could have watched this on the big screen. First time I watched it in the 80s, it was totally unexpected. I was at my best friend’s house and the local TV guide said it was going to show all the MASS device episodes back to back which they have done in the past to fill up a Saturday or Sunday afternoon. Then that intro started and we didn’t know what was happening. We didn’t even know a G.I. Joe movie existed. Of course we started to freak out and I used my friend’s phone to call my brothers to turn on the TV and that there is a GI Joe movie on channel 20! I’ll always remember that afternoon being able to see the movie with the first time with my best friend who also was a huge G.I. Joe fan.

The Thing was able to break into the top 10.
I had hopes this would have don't well enough to make some news.

Yeah while there I saw an ad to rent a screen for conferences and meetings. Before Rona, etc. I don't recall ever hearing theaters being used for that before. Seems odd since office spaces are still physically present so it isn't a measure to mitigate another pandemic. Long way to say theater attendance is still not doing well. I think it has less to do with Rona than it does with all the on demand and streaming service subscriptions. Actually going to the theater may be a thing for certain older generations (like us and above).
That said, the experience of watching a movie in a good theater with a massive screen and booming sound, with an appreciative audience, still can't be matched at home. Unfortunately, I don't think the shoebox auditoriums these Fathom events typically play in really qualifies for that. |

The only movies I go to anymore are the huge spectacles with amazing fx. And maybe cultural game changers. But those usually also fall into that category. Thanks to the pandemic, family immuno deficient and rapidly becoming a card carrying member of the Grumpy Old Men Society, it's become easier and easier to avoid. Plus I still haven't forgiven them for ending dollar theaters. Did I mention I'm cheap too ;)

Man I just wish Bloodsport would return for a weekend. It's my favorite movie but I skipped it in the theater. Took weeks to rent because our video store only had one VHS tape and it was always out. Scored a bootleg from a neighbor. Good times.
