I just received the Cobra officer and trooper 2 pack today, and while I was looking forward to it, I have to say I was really excited when I got these figures in hand. These really feel like great figures to me, and are my favorite of the line so far, so much so that I ordered another pack. I should have just ordered 2 to start with, but I didn't because the pack didn't make sense as army building equal parts officer and trooper, but I like them so much I went ahead and ordered another.
The image of the 4 figures show the 2 new retro o-ring figures on the left, a Black Major figure next to them, and then a vintage o-ring trooper on the far right. The most obvious difference is the more matte finish of the new figures, but I have to say that I feel they look great with the matte finish on these figures. I wasn't completely convinced with the SS SE set, but I am with this set. In a way the matte finish gives them a slight Sunbow animation vibe, cause obviously the cartoon characters were not glossy, so I don't think Hasbro needs to lay into the facial features like Duke to channel Sunbow, the matte finish kind of echos that enough. The blue color of the new trooper and officer also looks closer to the cartoon. In hand the figures feel solid, good quality and have a similar heft to the vintage figures. They don't feel exactly the same as the vintage, because of the difference in plastic, but they don't feel cheap either, it's just more personal preference, and I've grown to like the finish. They look more matte in the photos than the do in person, and I think they've found a good balance with the different plastic while still retaining some gloss... and the plastic in person looks a lot better than how it's presented in photos IMO. Compared to the BM figures the plastic feels like much better quality, and have more heft. The eyes also look much better in person. For some reason photos of the faces make the eyes look beady, but their look well proportioned in person. The paint apps look really good on mine, everything looks sharp. All the joints feel tight, with the exception of the right arm swivel above the elbow of my officer, which is a little loose. The knees of the officer don't bend to 90 degrees, but to more like 60 or something, it seems like theres the way it's constructed prevents it from bending to a full 90... another reviewer noted this too, and I didn't know if it was just their's, but it seems to be on mine too. Over all I'm really happy with these new figures, both in aesthetic, plastic and over all quality. This makes me really look forward to the other o-ring releases they have planned. Noice! I appreciate your thoughts. You know, I always thought Black Major stuff is pure shit, but it got a pass from collectors for some reason. I actually think I like the looks of the new guys better than the vintage ones.

Excellent! My 2 sets are supposed to arrive Tuesday. I'm also considering using another account for more, especially since I want to keep a set MOC, but I also feel like these will be reintroduced in different, cheaper packaging at some point. It depends on how patient I'm willing to be.

Thanks! I agree about the Black Major figures... that BM trooper was the only one I bought as it looked good in the photos, but when I received it the plastic felt hollow, light, brittle and cheap, and the paint is pretty sloppy too. I agree, the new figures look really good, and if this is what we can expect, I can't wait for all the figures that are coming with the Skystriker.

I like them…but something about the helmet shape seems a bit off.

The helmets look ever so slightly less "pointy" compared to the vintage to me, but it's one of those details that I really need to scrutinize closely to notice, and doesn't bother me... it actually feels well proportioned with the rest of the head to me.
