Rawhide Roadblock looks fantastic! I wasn't really crazy about that head sculpt for RB, but as a younger version of the character it seems to fit. The rest of the figure sells it as RB, being a big guy that no one would want to tangle with! Great work!

I like the v1/v2 blend. The little added marauder/JT parts make a difference too. I’ll be back to see how he turns out!

I appreciate this Z, as my goal was more for Roadblock to "fill up a large amount of space effectively and cleanly". Thanks AA. I do think I need the splash of red though--hopefully can find ways to make it consistent on all. As for the MTF//JT parts, For years I've probably been too snobbish to use such parts on Hasbro based builds, and tried to change that--first with some OG13 Modern build Retros, and now here with T13. But at the same time, I'm looking to use the pieces stealthfully, and on a limited basis per figure. I still want this set to be borne of ROC/POC/RET, as my tribute to that time period of figures. |

Posted this pic on another thread, and realized I hadn't posted it here. Taken at the end of April 2022 this year, I took this as a group photo to study and plan on updates to parts and colors. I wish I had taken it prior to already undertaking some of the updates. I think I was waiting to do all the desired build changes, take this group photo as set up here, upload it up here and then use it to mark up color/camoflage updates. Oh well...
PhotoGrid_Plus_1651125406617 by HissHissFangFang, on Flickr Recent changes to Shipwreck and Stalker (from some recent earlier posts) are shown here, though Stalker's work is STILL ongoing. After months of trying to see otherwise, I'm beginning to believe an essential Stalker needs a beret. If so, technically I can give Shippy his knit cap back--but I think his new cover has really grown on me and I may stay with it. I really wanted someone in the group to have this traditional headgear, and it has some precedence with the character in the form of new sculpt versions from 2004 and 2005. Snake Eyes also got new forearms and ball-joint hands and a thicker neck. I've still got some head shaping tweaks to do. Scarlett has updated MTF lower arms and hands (for the ball joints), as well as some brown paint apps on the uniform (inspired by the Snake Eyes Origins look). She also had some neckwork down to allow better head tilt, but that resulted in me messing up here face paint cleanup I did years ago. The browns shown are too dark and need lightening. So basically her build is down, just needs final repainting. 20220311_224350~2 by HissHissFangFang, on Flickr Photo above, WIP, has taken in March 2022, but I sat on it for a while. I'm glad I did, or someone else would probably be pointing out the unfortunate placement of our resident Ninja Commando's sword sheath (confirmed: is a sword sheath, is a sword sheath). This would be an excellent time for me to break by "photoshopping rule" I think. Beachhead needs slightly longer legs and maybe a wider head. Maybe. I haven't set what alternate legs to use yet... Conversely, Tunnel Rat could be a tad shorter, and might need a smaller head. The photo doesn't lie--the figure is bigger and taller than all in the middle row, and if you know me... I'm good with Falcon's build, except for his long arms and big hands (need visible in the photo). I still want a head that looks a little more like the Sideshow headband head exclusive. Any longtimers here know it Krexx ever made the head he made for Cloud Strife 10 years ago available for all? https://www.hisstank.com/forum/g-i-j...ife-again.html 20220427_224349 by HissHissFangFang, on Flickr Gung Ho's build will also stay as is--although just the other day I though about switching upper bodies with Roadblock to give RB the sleeves based on his v2 look... Roadblock's build update, I think now complete was shown last week. The photo here shows his old little neck, and removed paint from sanding down the area--for what reason I can't seem to remember right now... Flint likely will stay the same build, as I like the clean streamlined POC body look. And finally, Lady Jaye got a whole body and head replacement. Her previous body was the 25th one, which in many ways I like a lot, but decided this year that all T13 would be based on bodies post 25th (plus ball-jointed hands). 2022-06-26_12-13-44 by HissHissFangFang, on Flickr I also changed up the head with a new Retro head, which finally one me over despite not being cast in flesh color. A few paint tweaks made it work for me. As for the old head, I loved how the cap was set low , but I was never a fan of the hair sculpt which felt like from another era even before the eighties. Hats off to it though, as it served me well for 7-8 years. Lower legs are from a ROC General Hawk (also used on many other grey/blue ROC Joe figures like Breaker, Ripcord variants, etc). I wanted to maintain somewhat low cut boots, and also needed shorter lower legs to balance out the longer upper legs (taken from ROC Cover Girl). Upper body is a 50th Lady Jaye, back collar was removed and will getting resculpted. Forearms and hands are from MTF. The upper arms at the joint need to be sanded down for better flow into these new arms, and then all here flesh areas need repaint for match. Her color scheme is up for grabs at this point, though what's shown is the current direction. But I wouldn't mind some ideas based on previous iterations, common or osbscure. So again its another WIP photo in the end, but I got some really nifty lighting that I don't think I'll be able to replicate. Also I could use some feedback and ideas on things at this time, especially on the colors. I may swat the ideas down, but let all know the reasons. Otherwise, thanks again for checking out my stuff. |

Love all these except Tunnel Rat and only because of the height issue you mentioned. Still a great rendition of him. You show a lot of restraint to go with some of the great factory or mostly factory builds, and just fine tune their colors. Beachhead for example was a great figure but your paint apps make him a definitive Beachhead.
My favorites are probably Gung Ho and Shipwreck. My Gung Ho is similar to yours, but with the tank top upper. You've got me wanting to find a similar hat for my Shipwreck. Bravo and keep 'em coming, BD

My favorites are probably Gung Ho and Shipwreck. My Gung Ho is similar to yours, but with the tank top upper. You've got me wanting to find a similar hat for my Shipwreck. Bravo and keep 'em coming, BD Staying with Hasbro factory parts for the majority is just what this set is all about, I discovered when picking this up again after a few years. It started with some kitbashing of Scarlett, Shipwreck and Duke in 2009, and continued that way until 2015 when most of the builds stabilized to its most recent from in the previous post pics. Each year between it was about stealing the newest and best parts by Hasbro during that era. From 2018 on, I spent most of my time rebuilding classic styles from what I learned kitbashing this set. Now in returning back to this set, it seemed best to just fine turn parts for fit, form, and articulation using tricks learned working with the classics. The Shipwreck cover is from MTF, but I did a lot of modding to make the brow thinner. I might also have it on backwards, but prefer it that way due to a weird roll on the other side. But please be careful with these. Seeing your current ECHO team stuff, you're going crack my wall--it's feels like we're one or two figures away from me trashing my this 10-yr old Hasbro crap and going all Joy Toy! Some pics taken yesterday: 20220703_022736 by HissHissFangFang, on Flickr For the group pic from previous post, don't think I had the right angle perspective on the group with Beachhead looking so small and Tunnel Rat looking to big. So took a smaller group to check. So BH is not too undersized (his head was previously raised with a little sclupey in the head socket. Same trick might also work at the feet for little more height. TR is not a giant, but he is a little taller than ideal for him. Stalker could be taller despite having a slighly oversized head. Might try some different feet. 20220703_024054 by HissHissFangFang, on Flickr TR with 25th head might be smaller but to small--body is just too tall overall. TR 25th is still big, not tall but wide. So we'll stick with the Krexx head (which I really like anyway). BH could use some wider hands... Stalker has new neckwear, courtesy of Joy Toy and ebay. Still working on final fit. Also, Stalker is sporting his traditional beret fo these session. I'm really wondering if the beret is too essential for Stalker despite other looks, and there's no fighting this. 20220703_003901 by HissHissFangFang, on Flickr I have extra Stalkers in comic o-ring style and Walmart Retro style, so: 20220703_010453 by HissHissFangFang, on Flickr O-rings return to GI Joe: 20220703_013423 by HissHissFangFang, on Flickr Walmart retro stalker wears my new Joy toy neckwear: 20220703_020103 by HissHissFangFang, on Flickr TR compare: PhotoGrid_Plus_1656875162479 by HissHissFangFang, on Flickr TR compare: 20220703_194125 by HissHissFangFang, on Flickr |

Here's an update on a few things and figure bits. Nothing really 100% complete, but some progress and study pics I don't want to post 6 months later when everything's done...
Tunnel Rat: Last month, I mentioned working on adjusting Tunnel Rat's height: 20220703_194125 by HissHissFangFang, on Flickr My original T13 Tunnel Rat build was basically all a 50th Law figure with knee bits switched up from Renegades Ripcord. It seemed that I could get some height reduction by switching to legs from 25th Tunnel (above used with a Renegades Ripcord upper body for my collection's classic Tunnel Rat). While doing this, I only just noticed that the 25th Tunnel legs are similar but different from the 25th Shipwreck's legs, the first available fodder I had. Upper legs are the same, but Shippy's lower legs are different and longer. As a result, 25th Tunnel's leg bits a liittle look out of proportion to me now. Below is a side-by-side comparison with my classic collection Tunnel, as well as an unmodified ROC/Night Force 25th Tunnel Rat, whose colors will be the basis for my T13 version. 20220706_012828 by HissHissFangFang, on Flickr As mentioned, I was now bothered by the lengths of upper leg compared to lower leg. Additionally, I really wanted to keep the aesthetic of big knee pads from my previous build. So for right now, I am using MTF knee pads, which are loose if not positioned in the right location. I like the look, so I am working on a more permanent fix to keep them tight, and in a position to visually balance out the lengths of lower and upper leg. I could probably get him shorter by switching to Renegades Ripcord torso, which would also make him a bit beefier (a good thing). But the height mostly works for me with all the current T13 in progress. Below is a sample: 20220705_012940 by HissHissFangFang, on Flickr The body's the right size (compare shoulder height with Beachhead), but the head is really big (compare to Falcon and Beachhead). The head is a great sculpt that I can't part with, and helps Tunnel Rat looks smaller when posed alone (big head on small body good for smaller guys, bad for larger guys). I am looking at ways to deal with this (sand down the chin and/or skullcap?). Last week I broke one my cardinal rules, and started with tampering with my pictures via cropping and pasting manipulation. My Samsung Tablet Gallery Photo Editor introduced a new feature: Object eraser! I decided to play with in combo with the app?s lasso crop and sticker maker to get an idea of my preferred head size. I was actually hoping that it would look like a terrible terrible photoshop job to discourage me from doing this more in the future: 2022-08-12_05-44-00 by HissHissFangFang, on Flickr I would actually like it even a bit smaller, but was having trouble adjusting to that fine an increment (no scaling by number input available, all by touchscreen 2 finger stretching). But at least the head looks more proportionate to Falcon?for Beachhead, I decided I will switch to a 50th Firefly head for something wider, similar to what I did with my classic collection version (https://www.hisstank.com/forum/g-i-j...ml#post5290276). PhotoGrid_Plus_1660301468547 by HissHissFangFang, on Flickr Maybe most can't see any difference in the head size? Below is a side-by-side to show I'm not crazy (which again may fail to prove anything, such is my life/brain)? 2022-08-12_06-07-56 by HissHissFangFang, on Flickr Other than Tunnel Rat, I?m still trying to tinker with Stalker but not getting anywhere with all my current personal constraints. I'm frustrated that with this build, I can't him to easily read as Stalker unless he?s sporting his classic beret, which I want to part with in favor of a more modern action ready look. Berets these days are more of a ceremonial or service uniform look, except to a few Hollywood holdouts. In fact, berets were officially replaced with the patrol cap for the current US Army Combat Uniform 11 years, based on soldier feedback. As I've tried alternate headgear on this figure, it's only when he sports the beret that he universally recognized as Stalker. And honestly the figure looks good with the beret?its just not where I wanted to go with my vision of the character and figure for this special/personal set. At the same time, partly related, I?m seeing a lot more toy photography of that Classified Beachhead, sporting that bright red beret?which I'll go ahead and say right here in now, is the stupidest looking visual. No offense to US Military, whom I?ve never seen sport the beret plus baklava look (on Google search only see a single guy from the NRA do this). I haven't seen anyone anywhere complain about this, so maybe it's just me. And maybe (maybe) all the Joes would look great in berets. Especially Snake Eyes, ignoring the whole practicality and redundance of the headgear ensemble--just as with Beachhead: 2022-07-29_11-13-03 by HissHissFangFang, on Flickr Just so you all know, this was initially in total jest--but actually looks kinda suave if you actually accept Beachhead with the beret as well. Of course with Beachhead really kicking off this whole beret party, I invited my T13 version as well. Unfortunately I don?t have enough berets to go around. Plus Beachead is...Beachhead, and wouldn't be into the non-standard issue dress ensemble. I did have a spare BBI helmet that I thought looked neat on him that I always wanted to show: 20220730_025942 by HissHissFangFang, on Flickr 20220729_224536 by HissHissFangFang, on Flickr But none of my T13 sport combat helmets: that is a purposeful design choice, though a bit Hollywood influenced. If one or two wear a helmet, it seems to beg the question of why any of the others wearing the practical, and probably necessary, headgear as well. So for now, no helmets in my Joeverse/Toyline?but maybe in the future? BatesDragon is currently making good use of various helmets from both Joe and Joy Toy lines--if I can find 10 nice and unique ones? To close, really needed to see Beachhead in a beret along with his fellow ranger (although both no longer really Rangers after joining this team, now are Joes...whatever that team/unit is classified as). 2022-08-05_11-54-59 by HissHissFangFang, on Flickr Maybe could use that flash of vivid color (if you need your Joe figures to ?pop?), but I don?t think that color splash needs to be blazoned on the top of his head. Plus, the helmet looks better, and no cap at all is classic and works just fine for everyone, non? 2022-08-06_04-18-06 by HissHissFangFang, on Flickr And again, I have a head size issue with Stalker, which seems to be the main root problem with my build, and really highlighted with the pic above. And again I was tempted to tamper with the clip/erase/sticker technique I did with Tunnel Rat: 20220806_131424 by HissHissFangFang, on Flickr Above the left is the original, right is tampered for smaller head. Below, the left is tampered for smaller head, compared to original on left: 2022-08-06_03-17-15 by HissHissFangFang, on Flickr 20220806_131131 by HissHissFangFang, on Flickr Reducing the size makes his body/chest look more beefy, and like armor on the body. This is also probably why using a smaller original 25th Stalker head looks better in some respects to this head. Yet I am adamant on making this head work---might need to sand down the crown cheeks and chin to get it closer to the look in the tampered photo above. Finally, I have the same issue with the Snake Eyes head I?m equally adamant about using (something I love about the smooth visor with tons of horizontal line/slits, less archaic looking?). Though I have sanded the crown and sides to be smaller and more squarish, the head could use additional work. Next test is to see if I can get this visor on the POC Snake visor head. Also, switched lower arms and feet from a 50th Tombstone, for more detail at arms and height overall. Thanks Tombstone. RIP Tombstone. 20220804_024917 by HissHissFangFang, on Flickr Original above, tampered with smaller head below: 20220807_054831 by HissHissFangFang, on Flickr Side by side below, original is on the left, almost looks like its the one tampered with? 20220807_055033 by HissHissFangFang, on Flickr My overprocressing probably doesn't help convey the reality, so unedited version below, first pic taken with my Samsung S22 (recalibrating will be a learning curve): 20220804_024917 by HissHissFangFang, on Flickr More next month... 20220726_222429 (1) by HissHissFangFang, on Flickr 20220729_224536 (1) by HissHissFangFang, on Flickr 20220705_012940~2 by HissHissFangFang, on Flickr PhotoGrid_Plus_1658892586959~2 by HissHissFangFang, on Flickr

While decreasing the TR head size by half a millimeter might improve his proportions a little, I think you could also leave it be. It’s hard to find a perfect head sculpt for him, and this is a nice one.
