The only thing that can be said with a certainty about Joe movies is that Storm Shadow is pretty consistently the best thing in them.

Joseph Kosinski apparently nailed Top Gun 2. He’d be my choice.

My picks would be Christopher Maguire firstly I think the way he handle the last two Mission Impossibles would work well for GI Joe, the Syndicate is a very COBRA-Esque antagonistic force in Mission Impossible. The more I think of it he'd be perfect for adapting something like Special Missions. Secondly, I'd go with the Russo Brothers their Captain America flicks are great examples of what a GI Joe film should be. Hell, Winter Soldier is a better version of Retaliation. Some of the Russo brothers' films outside of the MCU haven't been so great, but I think GI Joe would play to their strengths, not weaknesses. Joe Russo wrote the script for Extraction which I feel is the ideal direction for a GI Joe film. This would bring me to my third pick Sam Hargrave the director of Extraction, I think he could really capture the military aspects of GI Joe extremely well. Extraction is Hargrave's directorial debut so he's not as experienced as Maguire or the Russos none less I think he could pull it off.

Not all directors are great writers, and not all writers are great directors.
Bring in Mike Costa and Christos Gage to write the script. Any competent director should be able to adapt it. Oh, and no shaky cam! |
