Oh wow.....these Captain Power customs look factory made!
Hawk is beautiful, you blended your silver paint with his vintage chrome body perfectly. Just a striking custom, then when you add the helmet, jet pack and flight stand.....so jealous! Like Steel Brigade said though, Tank Ellis, he?s the star of the show! He was the one I always played with as a kid (still have my childhood figure) so he was the one with the most meaning to me and you annihilated all expectations! I never would have expected you to go exo suit for him and I never saw someone seamlessly paint the exo parts to match the base figure they were attached too! Total game changer for using exo parts with painted customs! You and Steel Brigade definitely are giving me so many ideas for how to make my Star Brigade group better when I take them from their existing builds to finished products! Just a fantastic job on this group. Love the group shots of them, just so cool! Quote:
Thanks. Robotech is actually a fun watch. I never got into it as a kid, but as I've said before this project has really opened the 80s up for me. I've watched lots of great 80s shows like Sky Commanders and Inhumanoids that I never gave a chance as a kid as they were short lived cartoons and I never got into the toy lines..
Inhumanoids was another that we had some figures of, same with Centurians but I have no memory of watching the show.

I started it, then realized that it was made to tell a story, not just sell toys so I had to cut it off because I really didn?t have the time to invest in it at that point. Hopefully soon, I always say that because I have a ton of cartoons to catch up on though. Haha. Inhumanoids was another that we had some figures of, same with Centurians but I have no memory of watching the show.

A little shoutout here to Bigbawsmcgraw for making be finally get my Riggs and Murtaugh customs finished after seeing his great Riggs custom. I had all the parts, but kept putting them on the back burner until seeing his made me want to move them to the head of my 80s list.
One of my all-time favorite movies not only from the 80s but ever was Lethal Weapon, so I knew I wanted to add these two to the project. Riggs and Murtaugh from Lethal Weapon

Haha, you always keep surprising me with who gets added to the thread. I always think about the cartoon characters which it seems like you?ve done most of at this point but I never really think about the live actions characters you can add so it?s always a fun reveal when one pops up on your list or in the thread.
Riggs & Murtaugh are fantastic adds. I was always a huge fan of the movies as well so I love seeing them here. Both are spot on with their builds. Love the cowboy boots for Riggs and you absolutely killed it again with that paint job on the face. Then Murtaugh.....he?s too old for this s$#&! Hahaha. Love the suited look for him and again, that paint job on the head screams Danny Glover. That Marauder suit worked spectacularly for him. Always love the gray one, don?t think I?ve actually picked one up yet....have to check, might have been one of the newer colors that I didn?t grab.

Man I really appreciate that as those are my two sets of customs that get the most criticism. I wanted a lean muscular look similar to the cartoon for my He-Man customs not the squatty steroid look of the toys, but that doesn't go over well with a lot of people and Thundercats same thing I wanted a more athletic cartoon look to them not a mimic of the toys that didn't look like the cartoon in size of the characters.

Oh I'm interested too. Vortious printed it for me. I've heard too many horror stories about them to invest in one yet. I was close about a month ago, but from what I hear you get what you pay for. The one I was going to get was around 1,000, but I just couldn't pull the trigger. So, for now I'll stick to my sculpting and just do the best I can.
hopefully you used the version for magnets. https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:4923733 also, kind of cringed that vortious has the files. hopefully he didnt add them to his shop. they're under license not to be used for selling things - especially because i used someone else's work to upscale to gijoe size. (im also not really a fan of vortious to begin with and hope you found a better source for printed items) sorry i saw this 2 years later. i just recently had someone steal a back pack peg file, because they're just stealing models off thingiverse and tossing them on a ball joint model they also stole from thingiverse, printing them and selling them. |
