I think some of the issues in the File Cards, as illustrated with Flint, is to try to make them too much in too little of time. The problem with Flint being a Warrant Officer is more his educational background of being a Rhodes Scholar.
My son is wrapping up his contract with the Army as a 12Y Geospatial Engineer. He said that in Germany, he answered to a Warrant Officer who was early 30s. So, maybe if you shaved all the college years off of Flint you might get a early to mid 30s for Flint. Definitely not the young guy in Retaliation, which I couldn't stand that depiction. Speaking of ages of Joe members, I always envisioned most of them being career military around the 30-35 years old bracket. Using Snake Eyes as a template, I can't remember if his Marvel backstory said that he re-upped in 'Nam, but even going with the youngest age of 22 in 1975 when 'Nam ended, adding the 5-year gap to calculate his time with the Arashikage clan up to the formation of the Joe Team (c. 1982), this would make Snake Eyes somewhere in his late 20s to 30 years old. So, with some of the higher ranks, I don't see any issues with placing their ages somewhere around 35. Jason |

You would think Flint would have suffered from burnout at some point. |

What if Flint became a Helicopter pilot first? I think half of Flight Warrant Officer School is getting a bacholers degree. We have never really bought that up.

The reason why I say this is because my son is a SMA/CSAR for the USAF. So one might think that his basic job is simply manning a .50 cal on a Pave Hawk, but he is also trained in SERE (Search Evasion Resistance Escape) school, Flight Engineer school, and Weapons school, which is typical Special Missions Aviator training. This means that a SMA not only mans the machine gun, but also works as the bird's flight engineer & load master, and is trained to actually fly a helicopter (at least to land one). He's currently at home visiting explaining his training to me as I type ;-) So, if you think of the Tomahawk as more of a combat search and rescue vehicle, then technically NO Joes are qualified to man the machine guns because none of them are trained as SMAs. However, in my Joeverse both Repeater and Fast Draw are USAF SMA/CSAR. I picked Fast Draw because his helmet is similar to the ones the USAF SMAs wear with the goggles and face mask. Jason |

I think you can easily place most of the Joes and Cobras into their mid to late 30s or more.
Like Cobra Commander has got to be in his late 40s or even his 50s. He looks like a 40 something dude when we first see him driving with young Billy. But then again, when he unmasked to Zartan and Destro he suddenly looks way younger from the shadowed face you can make out. Same with Destro. When he's finally unmasked and you see his face when he leaves Cobra dude looks maybe 30 when for some reason he came off way older initially. I think as a kid the only Joes who seemed in their 20s to me were Scarlett, Cover Girl, Falcon, and Jinx. Also always felt Duke seemed younger than Flint by 10 years. Not sure why. Everyone always looked too old in early Joe comics to me, but too young looking in the later ARAH run. |

Depends on exactly what you mean by "man the guns on the Tomahawk. There is a difference between simple "machine gunners" on like a Black Hawk and Special Mission Aviators on a Pave Hawk.

Jason In my Joe-verse I have Airborne starting out as a 15T MOS (UH-60 Helicopter Repairer) before reclassifying to Infantry as a way to explain his "Gunship Gunner" sms. I know a Blackhawk helicopter would not necessarily be classified as a "gunship" (that seems more inline with the Cobra and Apache helicopters) but if he was qualified in either one of them he would need to be a warrant officer. |
