To me, they are absolutely NOT part of the original ARAH line. The REAL line stopped in 1994.. The RAHC was inferior in almost every way and can't hold up to ARAH - but it doesn't have to because they made it different so that its obvious they aren't trying to continue the line or even do faithful reissues.
What they did in 1997 - 2002 (and in fact up til 2005/6 with other stuff) was an homage. I liked most of it and bought pretty much all of it (The RAHC kenner 3 packs and vehicles, the RAHC 2-packs, the TRU 5/6 packs, the comic 3-packs, etc.) I liked it because it was familiar enough to hold some nostalgia of the original but different enough that they weren't trying to copy it with inferior products. Most of the figures were pretty good and I liked the different colors and frankensteining they did. the only things I didn't like (and still don't) was the paint wipes and camo-swirled plastic. To me, I prefer the RAHC even over the new retro o-rings they are releasing now. Because the new o-rings are trying to be the originals, but they aren't doing it faithfully, so why try? |

I'm sure it's come up as a response to this line of thought before, but they intentionally alter the repros to distinguish them from the originals. They did (well, still do) the exact same thing with the Ghostbusters stuff. They're not "trying" to create straight duplicates.

It's a damned if they do and if they don't situation too (like everything regarding whiny-ass adult toy collectors). If they did 100% exact and "faithful" repros, the hardcore collectors/people who look at this shit as an investment would bitch at Hasbro for devaluing their collection of vintage toys. So they change 'em up a little to be fun collectibles for nostalgia-fiends, which is exactly what they should be.
HASBRO!!!! PLEASE DEVALUE MY SHIT!!!! I HAVE LESS THAN 30 FIGURES TO GO TO COMPLETE 83-94, AND THOSE MOTHERFUCKERS ARE EXPENSIVE!!! I dunno. Make more o-ring Joes, please.

as an actual, real life, non-speculating joe fan, i'd be hella mad if they did 1:1 repros- i'd have to skip 'em because i already have 'em, and i wanna buy some shit. On that note-

you mean, "1997-98. then another break. then 00-06" (06 when they stopped o-ring at market for schlubs like me).
1982-1994, is the same line as 1997-98, then another break, then 00-06. some really great RAH sculpt stuff came out 2004-06. i figure, as long as they have an o-ring, metal rivets, metal t-bar, and screws it's "RAH sculpt" and it's all the same line. even this new stuff. judging by quality though, my least favorite period is 97-98. they were really soft in every way(plastic, sculpts) and didnt feel right at all. my trouble bubble is total junk. RAH sculpt = real american hero sculpt. |

I agree that the '97-'02 should be considered more of a collector's/nostalgia line, and not truly "vintage". Even so, some of those figures are becoming costly too, like the Stars and Stripes og repaints. |

You're lucky. You have a Create a Cobra figure. Now you have to sell a kidney to afford one. And foreign exclusives like I'm trying to accumulate? Yikes. Anyhow, considering the prices have been going up and up and up, I wonder when it will all crash back down.

I hear you, it's gotten crazy. The CaC I lucked into, to be honest- I happened to be letting go of my entire ME collection at the same time that TrueJoeFan was getting rid of the CaC. I traded a TON of troops for it, and considered it a steal. There's no way I'd have that one in my collection otherwise. The only foreign stuff I've gotten has been the UK Red Laser and UK Stalker, both very cheaply. I'll probably mostly stay away from non-US unless I see them at rock bottom prices, but as the name would suggest, I may be after a Satan or Ninja-Ku at some point.
This listing for a Ninja Ku has been up for a long time. https://www.ebay.com/itm/304396613938 I recently offered $200 for it, and they said no thanks. Good luck watching it sit for several more months then.... The same thing happened with a European 1991 Spirit on eBay. It was up for sale at $199.99 last September. It has a broken crotch and is missing Freedom, but complete otherwise. I was game and figured I would cover the broken crotch with the belt piece and be okay, so I offered $169. They turned it down. 7 months later and it is still up there, with a lowered price of $139. So I offered $99 bucks. They again turned it down. Heck with them then, enjoy.
