Well now that I've been convinced to go with vintage figure helmets for these 2020-2021 Retro Collection OG's, I've been working on getting the rest of the gang "updated" and finalized. My work room is currently semi-closed due to the cold, my photodesk is in a bit of disarray with a configuration overhaul and broken lightstand, and lacking some elements due to being snowed in. Yek.
I did want to do/show some progress this weekend after being sick the last one. Below is a teaser+test+study to hold me over for now... 2022-01-16_12-26-51 by HissHissFangFang, on Flickr |

20220124_000744 (2)~2 by HissHissFangFang, on Flickr Following Grunt's lead, all the other 2021 OGs get new helmets for 2022! Which are the old helmets from 1982-1983. On the newest body builds (for the oldest characters/styles), which are now effectively defunct (=old). Which basically means the fourth dimension has been conquered. Yo Joe! Also, Clutch gets a...different...vest from...previous photos.* More pics in a few days...or a few days ago? 2022-01-13_09-51-29 by HissHissFangFang, on Flickr |

CLUTCH [2022 RETRO REDUX]
20220528_100507 by HissHissFangFang, on Flickr BUILD: 2021 Walmart Retro Collection Grunt (repainted), with Upper and mid torso: 2021 Wal-Mart Retro Cobra Trooper Vintage accessory pack #1 helmet (repainted) Vest: 2008 25TH Double Clutch (modified) Lower arms and Hands: Marauder Task Force (repainted) Head: Marauder Task Force Force Ranger (repainted) PAINTS: Tamiya XF-73 D.Green, Tamiya XF-68 NATO Brown, Tamiya XF-15 Flat Flesh NOTES: This guy was actually done back in January 2022, but I didn't think I was at a good place at the time so I held off on writing him up and posting. Clutch here completes my 9-man "easy" OG13 updates, based on the 2021 Walmart Retro Series New Build. Pictures through June 2021-Dec 2022 had my Clutch as various stages of completeness, whereas this post shows my "final" version. 2022-05-27_06-50-16 by HissHissFangFang, on Flickr Though these days I feel my vision of Clutch is one with a five o'clock shadow vs a full on beard, with this Retro set, I though it was good opportunity to go with the full-on beard look of the actual vintage figure and the cartoon. I also thought that this would be the best place to use the bearded Marauder Task Force head. I always liked this sculpt but had issues with the paint apps of the eyes and eyebrows. Those bits were modified for a more shaped brow, and more squinty eyes. 2022-05-27_06-48-38 by HissHissFangFang, on Flickr Some consideration was made on changing the arms to sport the sleeves rolled up higher on the arms true to the vintage figure. In the end I decided to stay with what's shown for ease, matching my Breaker and RnR, and matching the 25th look. All of the helmeted guys with this set now use cleaned up vintage helmets rather than MTF helmets as shown on previous photos before Grunt?save for Hawk at this point. I've got a vintage helmet for him to use, but decided we will be displayed with the MTF helmet and goggles (sorta based on his 1986 headgear) or with no helmet (dominant comic book look). More on that when I retake a group pic in the future... VEST AND TORSO MOD: 20210615_195035 by HissHissFangFang, on Flickr Back when I started this set in mid June 2021, Clutch was iffy for easy redo, mosty based on getting the right vest. My early test of using an unmodified 25th Clutch vest on the Stalker torso showed that the vest was just too small for that torso. It would require heavy interior mod on the vest, which would mean having to buy another 25th Clutch--which weren't cheap--solely for a vest, that still might not work right after modding. PhotoGrid_Plus_1624095694274 by HissHissFangFang, on Flickr The next step considered/tested was to use the MTF vest that many have used for MTF OG13 builds. It's a decent facsimile of the original vest when painted right, allows for a working holster, and melds with the more modern MTF helmets I went with at the time. It was a tight fit on the Stalker torso though. In the pic above, you'll see closely that it didn't button up on the left side. 2021-06-19_04-53-51 by HissHissFangFang, on Flickr The idea came to switch the torso, and use the thinner Cobra Trooper body. First attempt (not shown here) was to swap the entire torso, but the Stalker legs awkwardly fit the CT's lower torso. Replacing the CT?s lower torso below the waist back with Stalker's piece (as shown above) worked much better. Actually doing the swap though was a painful process--relatively easier to pull apart, extremely hard to reinsert. It does get a little easier after a few times though (also did the same swap with my updated Retro Cobra Trooper over in my Cobra O13 Thread. PhotoGrid_Plus_1624095694274 by HissHissFangFang, on Flickr The MTF vest fit much better with Cobra Trooper torso (see third above), and actually maybe too loose after I'd thinned out the vest trying to make it work on the Stalker torso. For final test at back then, I again tried an unmodded 25th Clutch vest (see fourth above). It should good promise without mod, but I wasn't going to mess with the vest shown in the pic--saved for unmodded archive fig in my collection. So I would wait a few months until I would buy yet another 25th Clutch for an extra vest... PhotoGrid_Plus_1641696734154 by HissHissFangFang, on Flickr Above shows the final in the middle, with previous versions flanking. To get the right "relaxed" look suitable for Clutch, heavy thinning was done all over the interior side of the vest (around the arm holes, back, upper shoulders, around the collar, more around the upper chest). The collar was also shortened in height so I wouldn't have to raise the head weirdly. I also cut some mold off the torso around the neck over the shoulders and at upper back. He don't look too good without the vest, in favor of a better look with the vest. 2022-01-13_09-51-29 by HissHissFangFang, on Flickr Most of the pics in this posts were taken back in January, but the first post pic was taken today (May 2022)--I forgot to take a first post pic back then I guess. I've been working on my other collection sets since (mostly T13), and slowly started to mess with 6" Classified repainting (Started with Scarlett, but quit with Duke--thigh gear accessories to over over molded thigh pockets???? WTF???). I believe what stopped me here was the news that Hasbro wasn't going any further with this type of figure build (apparently in favor of o-ring reprints), and all the EZ-OG-13s I had done. For Flash and/or Grand Slam, we need new Hasbro parts to stay with this stay with this group and its new build type, including new removable authentic laser dude webgear, single piece (been waiting for that 15 years). Steeler is still an option for me if I find the right arms and jacket piece (need time for the research and test). The less said about Retro Scarlett, the better. Please and thank you. 2022-01-16_12-26-51 by HissHissFangFang, on Flickr 20220125_223118~2 (1) by HissHissFangFang, on Flickr PhotoGrid_Plus_1643173322371 by HissHissFangFang, on Flickr 20220125_223118~2 (1) (1) by HissHissFangFang, on Flickr 2022-01-11_03-42-15 by HissHissFangFang, on Flickr 2022-05-28_08-25-46 by HissHissFangFang, on Flickr CLUTCH UNCUT PIC 20220528_100507 by HissHissFangFang, on Flickr CLUTCH OVERCUT PIC PhotoGrid_Plus_1653751652358~2 (1) by HissHissFangFang, on Flickr

Thats the best Clutch update in my opinion, the vintage helmets look a whole lot better than the one that came with the Retro Grunt.
