I got this with a truck and trailer set from Tractor Supply, strictly for the truck and trailer. But I noticed how detailed and sturdy the Razor was, so I said, "Hey, Dusty needs a new vehicle!"
I took it apart and lightly sanded it to remove the paint decals and ensure the spray paint would adhere to the body. Especially the suspension, which was a bright green enamel. I cut up some transparent Legos to make the taillights and headlights, and built the brush-guard out of pieces of a sprue. Fortunately, it has real rubber tires instead of molded plastic ones, and though they were tight, I was able to get them off to paint the wheels. I cut off the passenger side hand-hold bar attached to the dash to make it easier to put a figure in. Then in that space, I glued a walkie-talkie from a Chap-Mei accessory tree as a radio and to add some detail. Above the radio, I drilled a hole for a pintle. Made from sprue and pieces of scrap plastic, with a tiny hole drilled into its end. The weapons from the Sunny Days Entertainment Elite Force M113 plug right in. Though you have to remove the weapon, it can traverse to cover the vic's flank. The spare tire was made from air dry clay, out of a mold of the Razor's front tire. I attempted to make the zip-tie heads look like metal buckles on tie-down straps... meh, not quite what I was going for. It doesn't hold a lot but, for a scouting/quick-strike vic, it can accommodate supplies for two. In the stowage area are a camo net, two rucks, water/fuel can and a second SAW. An AT4 and a SA80 rifle are tucked into the space between the roll bars. It's 1:18 but the scale seems a tiny bit off. The figure that came with the set is not as chunky as the 3.75" Joes, so they are a little snug. 4" figures fit but they seem a bit tall. All-in-all, Dusty and v2 Flint look right at home. It's a cool little vic to customize and a nice substitute for a Vamp or Awe Striker. The set is by New Ray and can be found online under New Ray Truck and Trailer w/Polaris Razor. New Ray also sells these and similar toys under various names out of big-box stores like Cabella's, Sportsman's Warehouse and Tractor Supply, which is where I picked mine up from. The Polaris comes in different variants (mine was originally like the second image), is also sold separately and comes in a 4-seat version. |
