I can certainly see why. Kind of asinine that even dollar stores are charging more than $1.
Pandemic my ass. I'm sure these "pandemic" prices will be here to stay. Heaven forbid companies lose some profit due to their own reliance on China. |

You have to consider a lot of Dollar Trees customers are people living off social security, disability, welfare, child support, unemployment, or otherwise well below the poverty line. People with super tight budgets that barely scrape by. People that regularly skip a meal so their kid can have one. $20 dollars would get you or your childrem 20 meals at dollar tree, now it gets them 16 meals.
20 meals is 6.6 days worth of food at 3 meals a day. 16 meals is 5.3 days worth of food at 3 meals a day. I've seen families in severe poverty get 2 meals a day or less. Families in severe poverty just lost a days worth of food for their kid. These are people that chose Dollar Tree brand spegettios for their meals because they couldn't afford the $1.10 for the Walmart brand. A quarter price hike is potentially devastating to them, especially with inflation now at its highest in 40 years. Poverty is horrible in the USA and has gotten worse in the last 2 years. Tons of kids in the USA live off the 1 meal a day they get for free in a school lunch. |

That very much maybe true but if they needed to do it to keep the business open or to keep from closing any stores then so be it. 16 meals is better than none.
One of these people complaining about the price is a beauty influencer so how many meals is she getting? Quote:

The $1.25 price change was pushed by what multiple articles call a new "activist investor" stockholder and the new CEO she helped appoint. The shareholders want more money. The stores were never in danger of closing, they didn't need to rise the prices to stay profitable. The former founder already said that in interviews. Dollar Tree has other ways to keep prices at a dollar with shifting inflation and shipping costs. Put yourselves in the shoes of someone living off $500 dollars or less a month trying to provide for multiple family members and seeing the news story that the reason for the price increase is quote: "Dollar Tree also said that hiking prices will help the company increase its profit margins." So yes people are going to complain. Don't lump the people trying to survive and upset that they will lose 4 meals a week with the beauty influencer. This is a common spin tactic used by a companies PR to demonize and dehumanize the people with legitimate complaints. Take a look at the high poverty areas of your city, and the homeless people struggling to survive and try to imagine living off 16 meals a week instead of 20. |

Well what would you want them to do? Keep it the same why everything else goes up? Price of shipping the stuff there goes up but yet they keep prices the same? Wages going up? Got to change with the change of times. How small does something need to stay a dollar with the price of everything else going up? Stop paying the employees and bring in self check outs at dollar tree? Have district teams come in and stock? Eventually they probably would have had to do it anyway.

99% of the people complaining aren't beauty influencers.

Don't know how to fix it.
Just seen too many people dismiss the complaints of the poor and needy since this started because to a lot of people a quarter is nothing, while to those in need its so much more. Just want people to be considerate of others and not dismiss them. |

My local Walmart still has a selection of frozen dinners for .97, so there’s always that option if 1.25 is too high at the dollar tree. In the end, the market will correct it. If they’re out of line, their sales will suffer enough to make them correct it. Obviously, the current inflation hurts the poor worse than anyone, so I do hope there are better days ahead, and sooner rather than later.

Welcome to inflation. All things considered including the new shipping costs per container from one port to another the rising price of a quarter on dollar tree is expected. Rising costs seem to be hitting with a vengeance on everything.

The article going around says there could be already losing shoppers, 6.2% in general and 12.2% of shoppers in the 45-60 age range, while Dollar General, Walmart, and other stores haven't had any losses in customers. https://abc7chicago.com/dollar-tree-...mily/11468487/ It will be interesting to watch for a while. Its major competitor Dollar General will still be selling 20% of its products for $1. |
