Other than stuff whose molds need to be redone/3d scanned, there's no new tooling, no new design time. The changes they are making to at least the front of the card I could do in photoshop with those assets in 25 minutes, and I'm not even an expert.
It's possible we will see the O-ring re-releases come pretty quickly because this should be relatively low-effort compared to the ME stuff.

Most of Retro wasn't new tooling either, yet we never saw more than 3 figures per wave. I'm not saying that tooling costs/savings aren't a factor (they certainly are), but we just have no evidence that Hasbro is going to release more o-ring figures per year than Classified (which frankly has already exceeded most people's expectations).
With the O-ring release, Hasbro controls everything in the product cycle. There's no agreements or quotas or anything else they have to meet with the retailers. They haven't yet sold out of the Snake Eyes/Storm Shadow 2-pack, and I'm a little concerned about that. |

If accurate then a sellout is imminent. We're still talking relatively small quantities though. |

We don't even have a clear picture yet as to how many figures they are intending to release for Classified, because the pandemic really muddled with what that intended number over these last couple of years.

Again, I have no idea how many o-ring figures we'll see per year, but I'm confident it won't come close to matching the release schedule we saw at GI Joe's peak in the late 80s / early 90s, which is what would be required to follow the "make everything in the order it was originally released" strategy that a few folks here have advocated for.

Sold out indeed. I wonder if both figures will get separate releases without the exclusive box/extra weapons, and tend to think they will.

I bet It would have sold out faster if we had some idea of quality & what else they intend to release. I’m still chapped by the quality of the ‘97 releases.
I wonder how Hasbro will handle Hiss Tanks. Are they going to try & sell us another one within a year with ARAH HISS Driver? Last edited by txbart; 01-06-2022 at 07:42 PM.. |
