My best guess is this is people who will struggle to afford it (or struggle to afford it right now) waiting until they can't possibly take it anymore and saying "OH TO HELL WITH IT I MUST OWN THIS!" and then clicking.
Or they're just that kind of person. You know your friends who, when you tell them you're having a party at 8:00 at your place, start getting ready around 9:15? Yeah, those people. I didn't even care about the stretch goals personally. I just thought it would be a cool thing to have. What did it have, a 3.5 foot arm span? That's huge. I don't collect Star Wars much anymore and have no Black Series figures but something like that would stand out on its own. |

The worst possible lesson Hasbro could take from this HasLab is there aren't enough Joe fans and/or they are cheap.
If they agree with that, we'll never see a Flagg (or Defiant or Terrordrome) in a HasLab. If they realize this may be a tough ask (time of year with a product difficult to differentiate from frequent, less expensive options, competing with other HasLabs) because of decisions Hasbro can control, then it may be a possibility to expect one in the future. First things first, get the Skystriker funded. Unlikely to see another Joe HasLab if we can't get this one over the line.

So there are two things at play here:
1. Last day surges on crowdfunding projects are absolutely a thing. Thomas seems like he's either being disingenuous or simply hasn't paid attention to crowdfunding projects in the past if he can't fathom why people might think there could be a last day surge. 2. The "International numbers" thing seems to be a misinterpretation of what Hasbro has said in the past, which is that international numbers are usually manually added at the end of the day or the day after. They do, however, update it daily, not all at the end. Where the "last day surge" comes from is often a combo of FOMO last-minute buyers, folks who already pledged ordering extras either for resale or "one in, one out" and e-tailers/resellers putting in their large(r) orders from having taken preorders on stuff for the duration of the campaign. I don't think it's ever been strictly "international buyers." Last-day surges also tend to be relegated to projects that have either already funded or are very close to funding by the last 24 hours (as you're not likely to get a huge rush of e-tailer orders for something that doesn't have enough demand to get over the finish line in the first place). LOL. If they had offered a Flagg or the Defiant it would likely not even be halfway to funding, as it would have been the most expensive HasLab project ever, at a minimum of $700 and possibly as high as $1K+ apiece. I do think this project was a bit of an oddball in that there's no ongoing line that it's supporting, but trying to toss out an absolutely massive project straight out of the gate would have been even worse for them. |

I think no matter how this Skystriker campaign turns out, a Classified HasLab will definitely be offered. The 6" line has too much positive momentum for Hasbro not to put one out next year.

I suspect a Classified HasLab is already in development. And I suspect a second Retro HasLab is already decided upon should this one succeed. And maybe even if it doesn't.

Funded or not, here are some takeaways:
Not all fanbases have the same mentality. What worked for one may not work for others. If you're hoping for a movie tie-in, it helps if it doesn't bomb (Snake Eyes) or releases on time (if they considered the new Top Gun at all). At least the current Joe team didn't misread their fanbase and cause a backslide. Multiple concurrent HasLabs are a terrible idea. HasLabs near Christmas aren't a great idea. If you are going to offer something comparable to something else previously released, either make it unmistakably better or closer to the old price point. Don't alienate a fan base within a fan base (Modern Era) if you can avoid it. That said, I still want this to fund. Let's do this!!! |

The rancor got so close and still didn't get funded, Hasbro essentially was not happy with that project cause if they wanted all that money they could have gotten it through easily by fudging numbers and such. It feels like they really expected it to do more than just it's basic funding goal and seeing it barely make that, as well as the possibility of last minute cancels happening as that always happens, that they just said "nope".
Not hitting any stretch goals is a huge downer for folks, seen so many say they are holding off the Skystriker unless they see it hit stretches, so yea that doesn't help anything. |

The Skystriker may fail, but at least it didn't LOSE backers like the Rancor did. I see a LOT of people crapping on the 3.75" Joe fanbase, calling them crybabies or whiners, or cheapskates or other garbage. But if Hasbro wants to lay blame for the state this brand is in, they have no one to blame but themselves. Fans have been burned way too many times by stuff like the t-crotch figures in the early 200s line, 25th Duke arms ruining countless wanted characters, a HORRID live action "movie". The decision to basically only make Duke, Snake-Eyes, Storm Shadow, Cobra Commander at retail while "lesser" characters were handed off to a garbage "collectors club" who asked exorbiant prices. A few years ago the 3.75" Star Wars fanbase was in a similar state, basically abandoned for Hasbro's precious Black Series. But that fanbase go behind stuff like the Barge and Razorcrest and the Vintage Collection is in a better (not perfect but better) place now. 3.75 Joe COULD do the same, but it will take a serious team that actually cares about the brand and wants to make quality product that fans will want to buy. I just doubt we will ever see that again.
