They would have to suddenly get into the comic business and create new publishing initiatives and get involved in new distribution channels. With how the comics sell, why would they bother?
If they can sell the license to someone, bonus for them, no work to deal with, just sweet money Last edited by AWOL; 12-01-2021 at 02:39 PM.. |

Yea cause he really has nowhere else to go, he would need to get an actual publisher deal going for wider distribution.
Also if there is no money to be made from it, why bother? Still have to pay a bunch of people to make the product and then deal with distribution. Hasbro has no incentive to bother making a direct to consumer comic book when a wide distribution GI Joe comic stuggles to sell 9k copies. Vala at best probably has sold a couple hundred comics. The following of his brand is tiny, only a couple thousand followers despite how much he talks and is mentioned here, he is small potatoes, and only a small fraction of his followers are going to buy a comic book for his toys. From the way the article is worded it's a leap to assume that IDW is losing the GI Joe rights. It specifically states Transformers, but those brands aren't a package deal, just because they lose one doesn't mean they lose the other.

Still would cost money to distribute, and also Hasbro doesn't automatically just own the comics when the license expires. |
