Nice work so far!!! I can't believe that just removing the lip paint makes this head sculpt about 85% closer looking to the vintage head sculpt. I may do this too. Really.like the helmet mods too. Now it is more Joe looking and less Jim Thorpe looking.

Amazing work as usual! I agree with 46 Zone, just removing the paint app on the lips makes this head sculpt much better. I like what you did on the helmet, but I'm still going to see what the vintage bucket looks like on this head sculpt. If and when I attempt a Retro OG13, I think I'll go with kind of Marvel-esque customs with the red mock turtle necks since these Retro builds kind of blend the ARAH toys, cartoon, and comic sources together. I should have 4 Grunts on hand by Thanksgiving. Thanks for the info on the Nail Polish Remover. I'll be picking up some of that this weekend! I really want to see how it works on removing the dark green from the Stalker body for a custom Zap. Jason |

"Jim Thorpe" absolutely nails the unmodded look. Quote:

Thanks--but you should have kept this to yourself (shaking up the red paint bottle now)... Let us know how the paint removal goes for you. STAY AWAY FROM THE HIP PIECE (HARD PLASTIC), or remove paint very carefully and methodically. I'm pretty sure you'll like the results on the body. The next bigger problem will then be paint matching the helmet (on my to do list). |

You should definitely do this 46Z.
"Jim Thorpe" absolutely nails the unmodded look. Vintage helmet: Hmm. I wasn't too happy with results on my other Retro9 heads, but forgot to try it on this new head. I will try this shortly to complete all results. Red on the collar would look sharp on Grunt's factory dark green. Yeah, the comics didn't seem to make a contrast in the tones of green, but I would still keep Stalker, Zap, and Steeler in a lighter green color. Jason |

hhff, whats the trick to get the acetone to work properly? I tried this on mine and not only did it take the lipstick off, but it took his whole lips right off some how. Crazy. Not sure what I did wrong.
Also I?m curious how well do the resolute S.E. And renegades T.R. Web gear work out for short fuze? Does fit well or is it bulky in the pits and make it hard for the arms to go all the way down? As always, your attention to small details is amazing!

As always, your attention to small details is amazing! The resolute SE / Renegades TR webgear works well. As you said, there is a bit of issue at the upper torso under the arm and carving out a chunk of that torso that's hidden from definitely helps a ton, as well as heating up the webgear, crushing it into shape with the arms and cooling it of with compressed air or cold water. Push the arm up and in to get that good lock position in the arm2shoulder joint. |

Let me know the exact brand of acetone you used. I'm willing to try on one of my spare heads to verify. My bottle is huge and old so I don't know if it diluted or changed with time-- though it did eat the ABS hip piece of Stalker.

I?m guessing the web gear that came with the 25th zap and the DG dukes is to small to fit? (?)

Above is the stuff I've been using for 2+ years. Same bottle--it's huge. I see they sell a 4oz size. I'll buy the smaller one and retest on a spare, to make sure my old one isn't diluted. 20210701_021419 (1) by HissHissFangFang, on Flickr Above Zap used the acetone on a Stalker. I used the acetone liberally and multiple applications to get the dark green out of every crevice without losing the texture. Zoom in close (better yet click to go to original and zoom). The lower waist piece is the diaper (would be red if Superman) and is noticeably harder plastic (ABS) than the rest of the body (PVC?). The acetone melts the hard plastic (similar to what happens with all vintage parts or torso+thighs of 25th/modern parts). A good test of parts for type of plastic is that ABS typically doesn't get soft when heated (from what I've found). Other can people can elaborate/clarify on all this. I dip a "precision" q-tip (it's not all that precise) into the bottle, dab heavy excess off onto the back of my hand, then wipe (not rub) onto the painted area, multiple times as required in the same direction to clear the paint from the area. For the deep crevice, I'll use a toothpick or steel pick to scrape the deep paint out after letting it get wet and letting the acetone mix with the paint. I hope this all helps. I don't want others damaging their figures, but honestly this hasn't been a problem for me, and have expanded use of this acetone on older PVC figure parts that I didn't consider up until this year, particularly on webgear. |

Thanks man! I?ll have to gIve this all a try when I get around to making them. One last question for ya? it looks like you used marauders lower arms for breaker, clutch, etc? do the marauders lower arms attach well without being loose or falling out?
