I didn't care for the packaging, so I didn't get many of them, but I couldn't pass up the Alley Viper and the Adder.

IIRC, the team that did POC all left Hasbro right after and started Bossfight Studios and MTF.

My personal opinion: POC was the perfect marriage of sculpt and paint. Great new sculpts were brought into subsequent lines, but the paint applications showed signs of increasing sloppiness and hinted of budget cuts starting at 30th (almost imperceptibly) got significantly worse by Retaliation, and even today at the height of Joe’s re-emergence, the Retro figures have too much unpainted bare plastic (Cobra Trooper for example). So for me, the innovation and attention to detail made them fantastic.

Is the 25th line considered crappy or inferior on some level? I just impulse purchased a V3 Snake Eyes on foil card tonight because it looked so damn cool. I was also surprised at how much cheaper they are compared to other ME lines.

Also, I wanna say that the comments have been really helpful in bringing me up to speed on the Pursuit line. It sounds like I should set my sights on some of them before they really skyrocket in price.

25th was hit and miss. Sculpts were not as good as POC on most figures with some awesome exceptions like snow serpent and BAT. 25th was also mass produced in large numbers so they are more abundant. If you make a list of figures you want and post it in a buy/sell/trade thread in that thread section you might get some Tankers that make good deals with you.

Hasbro was fucking DIALED IN at that point. All the kinks had been worked out and the juices were flowing.
POC has some key figures that really hit the sweet spot on "updating RAH". They came packed with accessories. They were trying new shit. 3-5 very solid vehicles too with the VAMP, Wolf Hound, HISS version whatever. They were vibing and feeling the fans. Dumb movies and other media fucked it up (but inspired some likewise rad figures). |

Here's my unpopular opinion:
The POC vehicle offerings are great. For the figures, I'm well past the honeymoon phase. The articulation on POC has always disappointed me. Like you, I missed them at retail and hunted for them on eBay without wanting to pay a fortune for them. Once I tracked down the ones I was interested in at an acceptable price I ended up with buyer's remorse. The designs were interesting and since we mostly already had "classic" designs of the figures the departures they made in design (Beachhead, Firefly, Duke, etc.) were just fine by me. Many of them looked like nice modern interpretations of the originals and some just made good random soldiers so there was a lot to like, appearance-wise. There are a handful of POC figures I think look just fantastic. But...the engineering for the articulation (mainly in the arms) was often (in fact usually) greatly lacking. In some cases that awesome looking web gear severely inhibits arm range of motion, elbow bends don't get to 90 degrees for some figures, and there is far too much swivel wrist usage in the line (frankly, any swivel wrist usage is too much in my book). So while the figure designs are interesting, once I had them in-hand I was kinda disappointed and I don't care for a large swath of the POC figures much as a result. I've always found the 30th anniversary, the non-movie Retaliation, and a fair amount of the 50th anniversary figures to be a better range to hang the "pinnacle of the franchise" medal from an engineering aspect at the very least. They took the best parts from POC (the cobra trooper/shock trooper bucks and the Snake Eyes buck spring to mind) and they built them out into a better-engineered line, adding new bucks from time to time and parts-swapping to make new figures. Retaliation's "ultimate" Cobra Commander, "ultimate" Stormshadow, Crimson Guard (ok, yes, they should have used different legs), 3-pack Firefly, Airborne, the freaking Night Viper (love it), and so on are far better than most figures in the POC lineup. 30th Airtight, Law & Order, Lifeline, and others blow POC away. 50th Gung Ho, Flint (SDCC version in particular), Destro, Leatherneck, and probably one or two others I've forgotten were all better than most of the POC lineup, too. I think people get hung up on the 3 or 4 quality POC figures and the homage figures (jungle Duke = Snake, Spirit = Billy from Predator, etc.) and overlook the fact that a lot of the line has mechanical deficiencies that would make them right at home with some of the early 25th Anniversary figures we all scoff at. So, yeah, everyone talks a lot about POC and prices are often quite high but if you want these for out-of-the-package use for posing or play they quickly become disappointing.
