TWO Chaplains look like Father Mulchay-- one looks like the TV version, and the other like the movie version.

issue 264
Destro and the Baroness are thralls of Alpha 001 Prime. She leads them to a Revanche facility and enthralls their Iron Grenadiers here. They go down inside the building. Alpha complains about all her soldiers losing their heads, then puts Destoness to work replacing them. While she is ostensibly the highest leader of the Blue Ninjas, she still connects to a hive mind to evolve. Any similarity to the earliest Blue Ninjas is gone, she doesn't even pretend to have blue and yellow fatigues. The new form of Alpha is that of a giant spider, as we have seen several times before. She uses the phrase "fearful symmetry" to describe her hive mind. Nearby, Zartan drops in on Crystal Ball which is delightful. Crystal Ball is a total loser who lives in a shuttered shopping mall. In Africa, the Oktober Guard reunites. Even the dead ones. Stormavik, Shrage, Horrorshow, Brekhov. Dragonsky and Daina join. Dragonsky refers to Cobra as Crypto-Fascists. We can, in hindsight, assume that all four original members inside the bar at first are all confused Revanche robot duplicates. I will attempt to use that logic, flawed though it may be, in future issues. By this logic, Daina and Dragonsky are "in on" the deception. Therefore none of the robots know what is really happening, and they all are being lied to by the two human members. So Revanche has created a fake Colonel Brekhov and posted him in Springfield. Robot Brekhov is filled with glorious purpose to attack Cobra within Springfield. At the Statue of Liberty, woke propagandist Hama tells us about violent Right-wing wackadoos who hate everything. They're gonna blow it up, man, don't tempt them. These strawman charactures speak in fever-dream buzzwords and they hate, boy, do they hate. Snake-Eyes Sean and Scarlett drop onto the statue from a Tomahawk. Low-Light and Stalker are confused about what to call Sean. The Joes appear to have changed the naming convention originally established. It wasn't confusing having two Snake-Eyes but it is confusing having one Snake-Eyes who has a second codename also and everyone keeps swapping them. There are a few good panels of action and sword fighting. Low-Light shoots one of them rednecks. One of those eeeevil strawmen can't stop using racial slurs I've never heard in real life but he gets kicked in the nuts so that's good. Scarlett shoots him in the hand with a quarrel then tells him that she hopes he gets stabbed with a rusty shank in the shower. Seems out-of-character, did she ever say that to a Cobra? Cobra Commander is watching Sean on TV and suddenly realizes that Snake-Eyes is, indeed, alive and well. Which brings up my point from before once more: there was never a moment I remember in which his existence should have been in doubt. There was the Night Creeper massacre at the cabin, there was no reason to expect a spy inside the PIT during the death of Snake-Eyes, and this hasn't been a plot point. In fact the plot points have all been that the transition was seamless. Mindbender's plot isn't just to brainwash him in the scanner. Oh no. This time the machine has been altered with Blue Ninja technology and he will try to completely alter Snake-Eyes. In the letters page a fan is real happy with Silent Option, and Larry brags about how he will have no problem keeping track of where all the characters are during his upcoming big opus.

Wow! I never watched the movie. I have viewed the entire series itself all the way through in order. Never would have caught that, good eye.

And like you hinted at, it's almost funny that the strawmen are there to illustrate how obviously evil and hateful Republicans are, yet the viciousness which Hama directs towards these creations betrays where the true hate lies. It's a shame, because Hama can be a good writer at times. Oh well. Wonder what would happen if someone were to show modern-day Larry the Marvel issue that 1980s Larry wrote with Roadblock's "Nobody ever died for a typewriter" scene. Alpha is forcing Destroness to make more droids. Something has tripped an alert sensor, and Destro is ordered into the sewer tunnels to investigate with "Beta-97." Lightfoot and Low-Light are moving through the tunnels. Destro and 97 attack. 97 is blinded by a wp grenade. Low-Light gets in a few good shots. The droid is quickly becoming less capable. Wrist rockets, then Lightfoot blows Destro's robot hand clean off. 97 is destroyed by gunfire. The Joes escape. Destro realizes there is still control of his hand when it is detached. The Oktober Revanche Guard arrive at an airfield. They have chartered a plane, but it is a trap. Quickly they eliminate the threat. Colonel Revanche Brekov gives them a thumbs up, and they depart for Snake Hunt. In New York, it is Sean's birthday and everyone has come to Obaake's store. Raymond, Milo, Obaake, Budo, Jinx, Scarlett, Helix and Dawn. Sean removes his mask to blow out the candles, to mixed response. Scarlett is lonely and sheds a tear, while Dawn and Sean have been building a kinship. Nearby, a full room "who's-who" of Dreadnoks is getting sloshed. No grape soda here. Zartan and Crystal Ball arrive. Crystal Ball looks like he belongs here. Crystal Ball announces that the plan to brainwash Snake-Eyes is about to go down. Zartan knows that if they don't help stop it, Snake-Eyes may be used against them as a weapon by Cobra Commander. Destro selflessly frees the Baroness rather than himself first. In the letters page, a fan asks for Kwinn's origin story, and another is like "ah, gee crickey, I sure am ready for Snake Hunt to start!" The obvious lack of resemblance between the original Blue Ninjas and the Revanche droids has come to a well-defined point. It seems as though Blue Ninjas might only be a type of Revanche robot instead of most of them. During my next reread in a few years I might make a guide to the evolution of the Blue Ninjas. It sounds tedious but it might help makes sense of them.
