At the end of the day I want Retro to continue.
However, if we're entering a transition to 40th anniversary product and O-Ring is what they're switching to, I'll support that as well. If this scale is toast and it's all-in on Classified then I'll switch gears and go back to buying select vintage goodies. We should know by Toy Fair. |

It's mindboggling when you consider how Toei and Bandai have kept Super Sentai going non-stop since the '70s. If only Hasbro could take note.

People need to understand that Americans in general, and the American consumer culture in particular, are schizophrenically hypocritical. Plenty of people say they'll support "Made in USA" products, but then we inevitably go for the cheaper "made elsewhere" product. A lot of this has to do with the "most for least" mindset ingrained in us, but it also comes down to the simple fact that we're saddled with low wages relative to the ridiculous cost of housing, healthcare, childcare and healthy food. Cheap non-necessity goods and easy credit have propped up a façade of prosperity for decades now. Well, those days are numbered and we all better start thinking about a new reality where the middle-class' blind support of the upper-1% is untenable and downright stupid.

It makes me wonder, was the original G.I. Joe from the 60s produced stateside? I believe that was before we started offshoring to China thanks to Nixon and his cronies. |

If this scale is toast and it's all-in on Classified then I'll switch gears and go back to buying select vintage goodies. We should know by Toy Fair. I was initially not going to support the Retro Line but ended up getting sucked in anyways on a limited basis. I’d like to get Grunt and Cobra Officer. Retro has given me a chance to get some figures I would not have considered getting the vintage counterparts of. If Hasbro decides to only pursue the Classified route that would be fine by me as well. Not a collector of that scale. I think the stuff that has been released has been cool and seems to have brought an enthusiasm back to the GI Joe brand. My vintage collecting has slowed to a crawl. Not really sure where I am going to go in terms of collecting. The vintage items left on my want list are very small and again with the age of the toys I’m debating whether or not it is worthwhile with the inevitability of the figures breaking down over time. |

Don Levine (credited as the "father" of G.I. Joe action figures) talked about the rubber diving suit coming from Malaysia, uniforms sewn in Japan, etc. The action figures were produced at factories worldwide. The USA was producing the posable fighting man figure in 1964-69, marking them with "made in the USA", but by 1965 Canada was doing the same thing, marking them as "made in Canada". In 1966, the United Kingdom had Palitoy making them as Action Man. Then Spain began making and selling the Palitoy version as Geyperman. Germany and Italy sold them as Action Team. Argentina and Brazil sold them as Falcon. Japan was later selling them as Group Action Joe.

Hasbro saying they have not forgotten about oring fans might not be that they are actually doing oring figures but just how the era of oring was. They could mean the card art, the figure style, etc. but not necessarily doing oring figures themselves. Remember Hasbro has a weird way of thinking what fans want.

And, yeah. All the "good PR" for moving manufacturing to the US wouldn't buy you a cup of coffee when it comes down to actually moving units. Then you'd have to deal with all the bitching from collectors over paying a much higher price for what would likely be an inferior product. |
