It has been a slow process of photographing and uploading images of completed customs. Here is more of a work-in-progress update of my OG13 Revisited customs first previewed over a year ago.
My goal is not only update customs of the original G.I. Joe Team, but to change up my formatting on how I present my customs by creating custom cards. Of course, this is nothing new to the customizing community, but this is more my spin on the process. I plan to go back and add a standard photo of my custom Grunt and his gear to the card front photo. In the meantime, here is a photo of my custom Grunt using the DG Shipwreck upper body, POC Snake Eyes legs painted dark green and brown, and Marauder parts and accessories. My initial goal when starting this project over a year ago was to use up the Marauder WW2 gear that I had with these customs. Since that time, Hasbro has released the Retro figures with updated web gear. So, once I find a Grunt, I will update this custom with the new Retro web gear, although slightly customized. The helmet on this custom is a vintage helmet from one of the Battle Gear sets, painted dark green to match the pants. Custom card back with updated File Card. I do not think that I ever saw an actual card back with the yellow "Coming Soon" explosion, but apparently this was a thing on some older card backs. I do remember some greyed-out photos, but I think this yellow explosion looks cool and retro! As always, comments, questions, and critiques are welcomed and encouraged. Thanks for looking. Y'all come back now, ya hear! Jason |

Oh, for some reason I couldn't find an M16 when taking the photo. So, I substituted it with an M4 Carbine.

Wow!! Love that Grunt custom and card!!! I don't think the new grunt webgear will fit that well on that torso. It may be too big. I'll try it tonight and post a pic.

Thanks for the comments! I really think the cards were a big part of the figures themselves back in the 1980s. My friends and I would collect all the file cards and even kept a photocopy journal of all of our combined file cards. The card front and backs are made on PowerPoint. It's actually quite easy. I'd love to know what the design process was back in the early 80s.

Well now. Now we know why this took a while, and why it may take some more. The full card reproduction thing is insane! For 13+s figures!! This would take me 4+ years to do! Exclamation point, one more!
The sneak peek is welcome. The card looks great, both sides. The photo looks great (good lighting, angle, sharpness, size/resolution). This project is going to be something special... I say take your time rolling them out, so that they all turn out as great as this "work-in-progress" (and allow us to digest and revisit each character, especially in relation to 25th versions and new Retro versions). Also, I wouldn't worry too much about the "Coming Soon" graphic. In the end, all will be filled I suspect. I'd use it to tease each subsequent/upcoming figure (black silhouette or pixellated?). |
