I get that. But forget GI Joe connection for a moment. It was marketed as Snake-Eyes and looked very Fast and Furious with a Hong Kong style in the high action trailers. So chance to be summer popcorn flick for the casual male movie goer. Chance to do even just ok. But that didn’t happen for whatever reason.
Certainly “GI Joe” name itself is never going to be a big Force at the box office. Or a slow build like what the MCU did, focus on the would be cobras, crimson twins business dealing that leads into discovering cobra. Then you need the Joe's ect. Just needs the right actors and scripts. First Gi joe movie had some good parts. |

Never say never gi joe could be a big deal in movies. Look at expendables type movie or somthing like the Losers.

A "slow build" is exactly what they were aiming for with Snake-Eyes. But it looks like it's increasingly unlikely to pan out.
We may just have to accept that "our" GI Joe is never coming back, and when it finally does, it may well be in a form that's even more removed from 80's ARAH than the recent movie was. Because we don't matter...we're an audience of diminishing returns that at this point might be able to keep a modest toy line profitable, but we can't make a "franchise" profitable by ourselves. GI Joe MUST become relevant to new generations of fans to actually be "big" again (not just in the toy aisles, but in popular culture as a whole). And I'd peg the earliest that's likely to even be possible as being about 10 years from now. Last edited by Jmacq1; 09-12-2021 at 11:47 AM.. |

Your argument is flawed because we've never gotten mediocre, (let alone good,) live action JOE flick. The lack of interest in G.I. JOE isn't because of G.I. JOE it's due to this shitty ass live action projects that Hasbro, Paramount, and di Bonaventura are attaching G.I. JOE to.

Let's take a trip in the Wayback Machine to 2008. "Certainly IRON MAN, THOR, CAPTAIN AMERICA, THE AVENGERS, GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY, ANT-MAN, BLACK PANTHER, (wait this is 2008 we're never going to get a live action Guardians of the Galaxy, Ant-Man, and Black Panther flick. Anyway...) name itself is never going to be a big force at the box office."

JOE it's due to this shitty ass live action projects that Hasbro, Paramount, and di Bonaventura are attaching G.I. JOE to. So yeah, I think it's safe to say that the mainstream doesn't give a hoot about GI Joe these days. The movies may not have helped, but if there was "interest" in GI Joe the movies would have done better even if they were garbage. It's not like crappy movies haven't made hundreds of millions of dollars at the box office before (See: Every Transformers movie between the first one and Bumblebee). GI Joe Fandom is reduced to a comparatively small pack of diehards, and as far as the mainstream is concerned, most memories of GI Joe reduce it to a mildly fondly-remembered punchline (based almost entirely on the toons) than great storytelling about deep characters. Nevermind the sheer willful ignorance of the fact that by 2008 we had seen major box office success from the X-Men, Spider-Man, Batman and Superman at various times, and even Blade the Vampire Hunter of all characters, so the idea of selling comic book characters on the big screen, and even obscure ones, was hardly outlandish. So...sorry, your analogy doesn't work. Last edited by Jmacq1; 09-12-2021 at 11:45 AM.. |

It might be time for Hasbro to look for a partnership with a different studio if they want something big enough to push toys. Paramount lost their mojo and just can't seem to figure out what they need to do to get people excited about their movies. When the trailers for your upcoming films are put before duds it becomes a downward spiral.
Yea GI Joe is going to be tricky for any studio but it's clear that we can't depend on Paramount ever getting it right. It doesn't have to be the GI Joe that I grew up with but I'd like to have a film I want to see instead of feeling like I only purchased a ticket to keep up my brand loyalty. |

Agreed. I can’t imagine any other studio in Hollywood doing anything better with Joe. (However, I can surprisingly think of a couple who could do worse) I think I’ve kinda reached the end of the line with Hollywood for the most part and I don’t think I’m alone. Everything just seems so… predictable and uninspired.

Kind of odd for a studio to announce no more blockbusters. It seems that is the only way the studios survive these days.

The subject matter, amount and violence and cursing, the GI JOE movies and recently Snake-Eyes is not for young children in the Paw Patrol demographic.
