Well if Delta is the true culprit in why Snake Eyes failed miserably in the theaters then we should start to see a tremendous spike money wise since it's now available online, right? I mean, I was constantly told to do my part and support this movie. I did, last night. I couldn't stay up, but I still purchased it. We were told countless times that this is the GI Joe for the newer generations. We were told ARAH won't work. We were told that the older ARAH fans are a dying breed and there aren't enough of us to truly make an ARAH movie successful while at the same time we were being told we should support the movie for the success of the brand. Well, is the newer generation now doing their part to make Snake Eyes a financial success?

Every single movie that's come out since Covid started clearing up has "flopped" and underperformed. Tons of movies that would have gone to theaters are just getting dumped to streaming. At this point the studios are just trying to get all the movies out so they're not sitting on a shelf waiting to compete with their movies for next year.
The Suicide Squad was great, got great reviews, but still "flopped" at the box office. |

I think the brand name "GI Joe" is just a cursed albatross. In fact, it's downright silly.
It felt so out of place in the Snake Eyes movie, which may as well have just been titled "Ninja Wars" or something. When Scarlett shows up in that stupid armor and says "He's one of us. He's a....JOE!" it was just painfully cringey. It's a completely outdated and irrelevant concept. Shit, the term GI Joe came from World War II. Nobody under the age of 75 even remembers that. The kids that grew up with the goofy 80s cartoon are all in their 40s now. It's not the responsibility of children to be "forced" to keep a dead brand going. If they don't like it, they just don't like it. Hasbro has tried everything. Movies, games, cartoons...small figures, large figures. Nothing works. Classified is great, but don't kid yourself for a moment that children are buying them. If Hasbro wants the IP to continue, they should do it like they did in the early 90s and call it "Snake Eyes and Ninja Force vs Cobra." Although after this movie just bombed, that doesn't seem to matter anyway. Also, this movie didn't bomb only because of covid. It was a lousy movie and nobody other than a few thousand toy collectors wanted to see it. There was ZERO internet buzz about it. Kids didn't want to see it. People in China aren't excited about it. It's a failure. I watched it for free and don't feel bad about it. I'm not supporting garbage out of some sense of "obligation" to a corporation. I buy the toys that I think are cool looking, and that's all I feel "obligated" to do. |

This movie was bad *but also* COVID. The story, the pace, the direction, the camera work (my god, the camera work), the effects. I paid my $25, I want to see another Joe film in the series - but I want more than 4 Joe characters in it (!!!) and I don't want the director or screenwriters to touch anything in cinema ever again.

The Suicide Squad was great, got great reviews, but still "flopped" at the box office. Snake Eyes: Released July 23...$35,000,000 Worldwide to date The Suicide Squad: Released August 6...$118,000,000 Worldwide to date If Snake Eyes made $118,000,000 just 12 days after being released I think we could say it was more of a success than what we are saying now. I mean, at least at $118,000,000 Snake Eyes would have more than broken even right? |

I watched it today. Not nearly as bad as people say. Not really a GI Joe movie, just has familiar characters. It would be nice to have a more grounded Joe movie, no mystical weapons, no superhuman stunts, but that is not what Is being made. But as a movie, it wasn’t terrible.

I think that's where some of the number crunchers are at, too. This is a new era and there's the uncertainty of how a property will perform and how to predict what the audience is going to do. I'd like to think that the star power of TSS helped them achieve a better profit, but it also seems like James Gunn knows how to make obscure characters watchable. TSS looked fun and the theme itself is interesting. SE looked dark and a bit depressing in a time when many people have too much of that in their lives. There's some campy, wild absurdity in The Suicide Squad that "they" say won't work in live-action. Maybe dark and gritty isn't as attractive as it used to be.

I think Joe works better as a cartoon, anyhow. Look how much a shot in the arm Revelations was for Masters of the Universe.

Well, I love the original Kong and Peter Jackson's 2005 one. With Skull Island, they inserted a bunch of politics into the movie to its detriment. They very transparently turned the whole thing into an on-the-nose, preachy Vietnam allegory, setting it in the '70s and even showing a Nixon bobblehead. Not stuff any of us should be asked to think about while we're there to enjoy something that was always a pure fantasy story. It diminishes an imaginative fairy tale into a topical, dated plot. There was no reason at all to set the movie in the '70s, considering we already had a Kong movie made in that era. It shows a terrible lack of interest in the subject matter. If you get to go to Skull Island as a writer and all you can think about is Vietnam, you're the wrong person to make the movie. Compare to the subtext in the other Kongs where it's about a man making a movie, and you get a movie-within-a-movie plot that underlines how they were trying to make Kong into one of the greatest movie spectacles of all time. So you're thinking about filmmaking and film history as you watch it, which helps you appreciate the movie on another level.
They turned the natives into a silly joke rather than someone who added to the threat of the island. The movie had a washed-out, sepia look that goes against the lush landscapes Kong movies always tried to portray. The monsters and the kills were mostly unimpressive. Kong was very weakly developed. He didn't have the imposing movie monster qualities of the original and he didn't have the sensitive, human-like qualities of Peter Jackson's. Most of the scenes with him seemed like pale imitations from other Kong movies. All the human characters were forgettable. The final battle was fine, but that's the only part I liked. I think Kong worked better as a character in Kong vs. Godzilla. Using sign-language to connect with him in the modern world was a good idea. But overall the humans were way too involved in driving the action in that one. And some of the human characters were terribly annoying. And the effects got really bad near the end. Just think how in Jackson's Kong, the monster is fully motivated by protecting the human he's fallen in love with. The humans don't have to push a button on an electronic device to make him do things. The story is so much deeper and meaningful and not full of artificial gimmicks. Quote:
SPOILERS FOR REVELATION Adam is dead. Like dead dead. Because he can’t go return to Preternia he proceeds into oblivion. Skeletor gets beat. Teela takes the sword. Teela becomes the new He-Man. Like she ACTUALLY transitions into a man when she takes the power of Grayskull. Transformation and “true forms” are a massive theme in this iteration. Think back to the comment made about Adam in Preternia. He was the only hero that “chose his lesser form”. The other heroes chose their He-Forms because those in Preternia "choose their forms". It would be single most radical change to an 80’s property in history. They race swapped Grayskull and Andra. Smith has already shown he’s “shaking stuff up.” This is a massive vanity project for him. Based on traded looks between Teela and Andra I think the showrunners are hinting Teela is gay. Why not go the extra mile and have assume her "true form"? That's how the second half of the season concludes. Que complete fandom meltdown.

If you're surprised this was released right to DVD/BluRay/Streaming/whatever, then bless your heart. You should be selling ads on CNN, sugar.
