I hope this doesn't mean Zandar dies.

Looks good to me. It has been a long time since we had a good "new recruit" story like when Chuckles and Fastdraw were brought on. A lot of later characters were just suddenly on missions.

Lifeline's got a gun and Roadblock's carrying a pistol-grip M2, times have changed.

I don't blame Larry Hama at all at this point. He's stated he does not care what the fan base wants and he does not write for us in his Q&A (paraphrase). He sits down with zero plan and writes the book as he goes. If he can write that in public and still keep his job he is just doing his best Captain Morgan pose. Until somebody with direction starts watching what's going on over there it will remain a dumpster fire that continues to spread.

It just shows how disconnected IDW is with the G.I. Joe community and Hasbro. You have Hasbro giving zero guidance or and "Brand Overlord" looking at everything for approval. We have an established brand that needs a stable coherent direction for the future. Having somebody spitballing the direction of a franchise brand of a fortune 500 company is idiocy.

Honestly, I don't think it'd be much better if Hasbro did have a heavier hand in the comics. Whether it's comics, films or toys I've never understood wanting to give money to people who obviously despise you. These people look down their nose at the fans who love these properties, and use the IP to mock them. So why bother? Starve them out. Let em eat catfood for awhile. The comics industry has been there for awhile, anyhow.

Given the success and likeability of his own projects, Brian Shearer could probably write/draw a Joe story that Marvel/Sunbow fans would enjoy. He's already done artwork on IDW/Joe and his Larry Hama stories are funny. I'd still prefer LH over Sitterson any day.

It would take some effort to find the right fit but I think the payoff for the brand long term would be astronomical. Could you imagine they tried to film the Death of Snake Eyes as a cannon source material. Most of the G.I. Joe fandom still have no clue how that went down. Also it would take oversight by Hasbro. Somebody put in place to tell them yes or no. Like Killing off Snake Eyes is a really bad idea. Lifeline does not hold guns on a Cover of G.I. Joe ARAH you know common sense. Who is Sitterson again?

Joe ARAH you know common sense. Who is Sitterson again? https://comicsalliance.com/aubrey-si...ion-interview/ https://bleedingcool.com/comics/time...terson-gi-joe/ For me, AS simply didn't have a grasp on the characters or the core of the franchise. It's an all too common problem found in resurrected properties and reboots (many of which were better left in the past). On the other hand, LH shouldn't have had as much free reign over the Joes either. His is the name we associate with the brand, but it was wrong that his employers and the owners of the property allowed that to happen. He (LH) needed to be told "no" more often, but some might argue the same in the case of the second season of Sunbow ARAH. Then again, that's assuming Hasbro wants the '80s Joe to survive and not to be replaced by something "old" fans don't recognize. |
