You are EXACTLY correct, of which, ironically, I was reminded of last night whilst watching one of Colbert’s late night shows.

Not gonna lie, my ears perked up at MASK relaunch. I loved that line as a kid. Can't tell you how many times I probably should have burned the house down while interrogating VENOM prisoners. It's why my stove privileges were taken away. Don't know that I would be all in but I would probably pick up a few favorites.

That and I just don't know if there is a large group of people banging down the door for MASK figures lol. Maybe I'm wrong.
Now if they want to test the market with a Specialist Trakker classified figure I won't argue. |

I’m glad we are getting a new trailer, I’m excited for the film, but that initial teaser really didn’t do it for me. Made the film seem a little generic.

Ultimately, Snake-Eyes still does not look like a movie that is appropriate for selling toys. It uses very few Joe characters, their costumes aren't colorful, and there is almost no focus on vehicles, especially ones with non-generic designs. You don't see toy lines being marketed for Mission: Impossible, Bourne or James Bond for the same reasons. Compare to something like Revenge of the Sith, one of the last live-action movies that truly excelled as a toy tie-in. George Lucas absolutely invented the idea of toy tie-in action movies with Star Wars. G.I. Joe in the '80s was built around aping his techniques. The whole artform and strategy has been completely misunderstood and mishandled with the G.I. Joe movies and the Disney Star Wars movies (which didn't even do the simple, basic move of giving the main characters significantly new costumes in each movie). So it actually would be much better for the brand if the Snake-Eyes movie failed. If this movie succeeds, it still won't sell toys, and they will make more movies like it, which will continue to be terrible at selling toys. If they can't get their own Kevin Feige, someone who grew up with the G.I. Joe brand and fully understands why it appealed to its fans, then they're better off not making movies. They had a good thing going earlier in the 2000s, and then completely killed the golden goose by making movies and tie-in toys for them that had no appeal for fans and rotted in the stores. Here, history repeats itself, as people are already showing no interest in the Snake-Eyes movie toys while continuing to buy up the toys with '80s-style designs.
