You should do a side by side photo next to a Hasbro head for others to compare. I want to see more comments by others then will give mine. Initially I will say I'm quite relieved that someone had good success with this.

The SCC recast is a big improvement. Like I said, I wish I had a bunch of them for my SDCC Baronesses (and my 50th bodies too I guess).
That 50th/Retro head just isn't good.

The lips on the cast are pouty, narrower on the face than the original larger head, protrude out more. I spent way more time than I would have guessed getting the lips even for my satisfaction. Technically it was easy wipe off and try again multiple times, and clean//shape the edges by scraping lightly with an xacto knife, but still took time. Chucez I think you did a much better job on the eyeballs than I did. If they look off to you maybe try to add little little more eyeliner on the top, for a more squinty sinister look. The last touch I did on mine that is not obvious is to thicken the glass rims inside and under the rims near the nose. This location is where the eyebrows would be, and cheating the linework here a little bit might also help to make here look a little more sinister. Last think to mention is that you may need to dremel the head to get it to set lower, though it looks fine in you last photo. It’s when I stand her next to other figures that the neck length seemed to long. When setting the head down lower, the back of hair may need to be thinned down with carving, so that see can look forward properly, not downward. I’m relieved someone else had good success with this cast. I was so excited with this head when I got it all finished myself. Also, I was worried that I oversold the idea that it wasn’t too difficult for others to also get good finished results. |

I agree. The improvement is huge when you see them side by side in a photo, and even greater in hand. Also the new cast is much easier to work with since it’s cast in flesh color. The others are heavy flesh paint, either too light (50th) or too dark (Retro), and fixing the paint of the glasses, eyes, and lips requires yet another few layers of custom paint.

I spent about 2 hours researching how to do eyes, and 8 hours getting to this point. I was wondering about the shape of the glasses frames. Because painting over the contours of the frames seemed to naturally add the shape of the eyebrows to the face. I'm gonna go ahead and try out some additional paint to the upper eye lids and make her look a little more miffed. Your copy of the resized head appears younger while the copy I have makes her appear more mature physically. And now that you point out that the newest version of the sculpt is a little more pouty and slender, I think I can sleep tonight. I'm really looking forward to painting more faces so I'm probably gonna buy paravipers entire catalog. He should give you guys a commission. I accidentally broke off her mic when I was trimming the flash between it and the face. Last edited by Chucez; 07-18-2021 at 09:31 PM.. |
