Woolworth was cool but kinda pricey. Kay-Bee around that time was discount toy nirvana though and where I spent most of my *drop off* time. Yet I was amazed just how much hidden goodness was found in the top level in a corner of Dillards. Of course it was only around Christmas and insanely priced. But still.

Believe it or not, I got all of the original carded figures from a neighbor kid that was wanting cash to buy smokes. Different times back then. That was during the summer of 82. That Christmas, I got all of the vehicles except the MMS. That was my first lesson of how Walmart doesn't care for toy collectors. Took almost the whole next year to find it.

My first GI Joe figure was '82 straight arm Short Fuse. He was 76 cents. I bought him at Heck's. Seems like eons ago.

My first GI Joe figure wasn’t even a GI Joe figure, was Action Force first over in the UK before it got all merged with GI Joe by the mid 80’s but still called Action Force till ‘91 I think? Anyways was the Royal Marine in wave one in ‘82 by Palitoy, uploaded a pic as probably a lot you guys wont even know what I’m on about? Maybe lol.
First Hasbro o-ring (excluding the Action Force o-ring repaints that came with vehicles) was a Cobra Trooper, I’m pretty sure, those didn’t come out till ‘85 here. |

You had Woolworths in the States? Very cool, had Woolworths too in England, UK, think they were in Ireland too, not sure though about that, haven’t lived here long enough to know.

I have a figure quite similar to that British marine but a red beret and the arms are posed different. But he's definitely rocking the Kenner vibe, and not bulky like Sgt Rock / Bad Guys.
