I was into Joes from ‘82 and always loved the 3 cardinal Cobra’s. I love the old Trooper card art. I guess I’m just pissy because I want to want that figure just got get an updated trooper on that old school card.

While I agree about the sculpt mixing across the line, I don’t see a more animated style. Stalker looks fucking amazing- wish they would have committed the whole line in this style and perhaps there’d be less issue. I do feel like there’sa psychological component that people are responding to, as well
I also find it odd they went all goofy hyping up the first couple of waves of repacked 50th/25th toys, but then Stalker and Cobra Trooper slipped out without so much as a generic press release.

For me (and I suspect many more than a few) it's because I really Want to like them. I want them to be great because Hasbro CAN be great. They've shown what they're capable of when they give 100%. They're just not giving it with the Retro Collection.

No doubt that releasing that Duke was a terrible decision on every level, but I think things are gearing up. Again, if stalker is setting a new pace for this line, I’m about it.

I have a half-assed theory that Stalker and Cobra Pilot/Trooper are probably representative of what the Retro line was planned to be, but something happened which delayed production and Hasbro had to repackage older toys to meet Walmart's release schedule/fulfill their orders. This whole thing smells off...like something went sideways.

Agreed. Though Stalker is an odd color, the sculpt is fire. I'd have no problem picking him up on sight. But that's one figure. If this is a sign of good things coming that's cool.

Opened up Duke, Stalker and the Cobra Trooper. Duke is hot garbage - I was warned so I had zero expectations. Stalker is awesome.
Cobra Trooper isn't that bad IMO. He is much better than the 25th Anniv mold bazooka trooper and 2008 HISS driver I have. The arm issue is ridiculous though and poor QC as has been discussed in previous posts. From this line I have gotten the Hiss, Fang, Duke, Stalker and Cobra trooper. The line is a far cry from the initial ME release run starting in 2008 especially once Hasbro hit it's stride with PoC through the 30th/50th anniversary. It's still fun to see Joe stuff in stores and I'm sick of dealing with the inflated after market prices so while at not exactly the ideal price point picking up a figure or vehicle spaced out over a few months time does not break the bank for me. |

Picked up one of each to open today.
I'm a fan and convert on the Cobra Trooper. The helmet fits *just right* and makes the overall package look that much better. The blue could be a bit darker, the Cobra logo maybe 12% bigger, the webgear could stand to lose the gun (it hides the logo) and I'm worried I'll rip it if I try to force the knife in any more. But the oveall figure looks good on its own. The above are minor grievances. Stalker is also very good, but I had far fewer reservations about his quality than the Trooper.
