Unfortunately, I don't think Hasbro or IDW are interested. They keep doubling down and the same group of 10 characters and half of them are actually pretty bad. Roadbloack and Snake Eyes come to mind as just outright boring. I'd love to learn about Torpedo, Freestyle, Agent Faces, and some others.

Fun idea!
Just so you know, Snake-Eyes Dawn is in the military. She is one of the only people to score as high as Short-Fuze on "Escape and Evasion" in Ranger School, which is when the Ranger trainee is brutally bound and neglected to simulate POW experiences. Short-Fuze holds the military record for not breaking under pressure, as the trainers expect soldiers to snap after three days. His trainers called their supervisors for direction after seven days because they didn't know what to do anymore. There's a new Joe "Mongoose" who was transferred to the team as the result of a failed mission in Trucial Abysmia. He is a multilingual Arabic New Yorker. I think he functions as their Trucial Abysmia guide similarly to how Recondo was the jungle guide. Also Larry just introduced Caseload, a JAG Specialist. We are also going to meet Bottom Line, a data analyst who will be leading a Joe CID (United States Army Criminal Investigation Command) division. |

GI Joe doesn't really tell a story that builds on itself anymore, like it did from '82 until '90-ish. Cobra Command was a ruthless terrorist organization determined to rule the world, and somebody's got to stop them. It was a machine that fed itself.
Then things started to repeat themselves or Hasbro lost its direction. Space aliens, neon colors. Even by the end of the Marvel run, Hama seemed to be phoning it in. But at the beginning, Hama and Trimpe (both veterans), gave life and fire to the story that I doubt few other creators could have. During the NS era, the toy creators seems to actually be interested in telling stories with the figures again. Sure, some of it was human-animal hybrid themed, but the line did generate a lot of new characters. Most of which have drifted into obscurity, sadly. Hasbro doesn't appreciate what it has, and falls back on the same core characters over and over and over. From a return on investment standpoint, that's safe. They know a Snake-Eyes figure will sell. Make a new character and it might be a peg warmer. Hasbro needs to find people to run GI Joe that: 1. Understand how to craft a story, even one created to sell toys 2. That story has to organically need new characters added to it to grow 3. It wouldn't hurt for Hasbro to make an effort to try to add some military flavor back into GI Joe. The first wave of Classified figures didn't really look too military, especially with the Nerf arsenals. The newer figures seem to be drifting in the right direction, though. 4. A good start would be for Hasbro to hire military advisors for the line. Veterans and/or history enthusiasts who could draw from their own experiences or historical events, respectively, to world build. |

If anyone's interested, I also added a bunch of Joes in my fan-fic, which is set in a version of comics continuity that includes:
Firebird, Wildfire and Crossblades - attack helo pilots, the latter two are US Marines, Firebird is US Army and an Apache instructor pilot. Eightball and Blackjack - US Navy helo pilots who fly transports Amazon, Slugger and Banshee, three fighter pilots; Amazon is a USN female aviator, Slugger and Banshee are US Marines. Swimfin and Splashdown, 2 US Coast Guard rescue swimmers, who haven't appeared in stories yet. Siren, Code Red, Flatfoot, Tailgate and Nightstick, a mixed service Special Response Team of Military Police types. Jarhead, a US Marine, Firebolt a Ranger, Alpha Dog a Delta operator and Lone Star, from Texas, a Navy SEAL. Marine Raiders - a 6-man sub-team specialising in amphibious recon: Devil Dog (team leader), Bullseye (sniper), Landmine (EOD), Longwave (signals/Radio Reconnaissance), First Aid (Navy Corpsman) and Buccaneer the machine gunner. Guardian Angel, the USAF pararescueman and Steel Rain, the forward air controller. I have full bios for the Raiders, they were created for a thing on another forum to create a sub-team. |

It's hard to add new characters (they just did though in the current story arc), because they have way too many already. Majority of GI Joe and Cobras have almost zero story interaction, they might say a single word bubble in the entire history of the comic series or only appear without dialogue in the background. Even when a character did get some comic time moments to shine, it was purely action and there no character development or interaction really. Such a giant cast doesn't really work for a single book, they need to be spread out over various media properties and built up over time.
Plenty of historical and contemporary missions that could easily be reskinned with Cobra as the antagonist. You could have the Army CID Joes (Chuckles and Sherlock) running an investigation into arms trafficking that leads to Destro and Iron Grenadiers with some takedowns. You could have Ace shot down behind enemy lines and has to find his way to safety like the movie Bat-21 with some Joe pararescue jumper sent out to save him. Interesting that there are no Joe submariners/bubbleheads. The possibilities are endless... And no more ninja stuff...It is really bad. |

I love coming up with new characters for all the factions (Joe, Cobra, OG, Etc.) I've even set up a site for most of them.

https://dbmills1.wixsite.com/dbmillsart/g-i-joe This https://dbmills1.wixsite.com/dbmillsart/g-i-joe is a very cool site. Do you make up those characters on your own?? It is pretty well-organized. Some of the command structure is missing but you've done really well with it....Congrats! I bookmarked it... Stasi |

Happy to see Flash getting some love in the Forum; Larry Hama continues to say in the Pit that if you want to see a figure featured, let him know.

I always liked the name "Iron Horse". Donated it to a guy on the forum here years ago when he made a custom Joe tank driver. Fits in line with Steeler and Heavy Metal.
The name of course is from Richard Chave's character in the old 1989 War of the Worlds tv series, Colonel Paul Iron Horse. He's better known as "Poncho" in Predator.
