The change to firearms and aesthetic to more classic military is probably them realizing that the primary market that is selling these out consistently are adult fans and not children. The first releases were clearly trying to be marketed to a general audience but the figures are selling to adults, kids arent even getting a chance to buy these at retail as adults are gobbling them up as soon as they hit. So screw it, go full on military.

In addition the toy designers don't seem to know shit about firearm anatomy or construction. Look at Flint's "shotgun". That thing would never fire because the breach seems to be located BEHIND THE ACTION. At least with the energy weapons it's easier for me to "suspend disbelief" because it's a total fantasy.

By the way, the worst gun released so far is probably Destro's big pistol. The sight is on backwards. I can't unsee that.

The cartoons taught me that bad weapons are part of GI Joe's legacy. Think of all of those missed shots. Destro be like OfficeDepot with how many laser cartridges he's sold.

Just thought I'd mention, I'm already starting to see those crappy little Joe metal figures hit the discount racks at Ross for Less down here in Florida. They don't seem to be selling there either.

Or if you are lucky enough to get SS/Timber, he has a collection to borrow from .

Anything that's been available at Amazon or BBTS has been extremely easy to get. Pulse has started to sell out pretty fast, but it's still NOT Target-level bad.

This is the way! My only gripe is that it's called "Heavy Artillery" Roadblock because artillery is long-range, not infantry. Someone should have caught that. But the design is exactly what most of us have been wanting. And being on Amazon it's the only one i can actually buy. So well done, mostly.

I'd like to say that look at how far this all has come. I have close to 30 gijoes again on my shelf! A video game, movie and tv show on the way. I'm just super happy and thankful to the designers and artists that pulled it off. I look forward to the future of this line, and all the cool stuff coming up too (Action force) etc. Keep making these toys guys!

That's a bit misleading. Cobra definitely trended towards the fanciful in terms of their arsenal (though never exclusively; see Rock Viper's PSG-1, for example), but a very large number of G.I. Joe weapons were, in fact, based quite directly on obscure or unusual real-world firearms (Beachhead's rather exotic-looking Demro XF-7 "Wasp" SMG being one such example) and even in the neon 90s, the selection of weaponry on the parts tree was such that for every laser gun, you'd generally also get a Colt 635, FN GPMG, H&K MP5K, etc, with the same figure.
