Some of them they did, like giving us Pathfinder instead of Recondo or Free Fall instead of Ripcord. But some of the iconic guys like Beachhead, Footloose & Bazooka hadn’t been available for years so by the time I was the main Joe buyer, just never would have had a chance at some of them if we didn’t get new versions in the 90’s. Bazooka made it to me but I didn’t have original Footloose and Beachhead until I was in my 30’s so was cool to see them on the shelves growing up with Battlecorps so I could have my own.
Haha, I didn’t miss the 80’s, I was around for half of it! It just meant I also got a taste of the badass 90’s! We’ll need a big crossover Event when I catch up in figures so the Karate Kommandos can meet the Double Dragon and Centurians can team up with Exo Squad. Yeah, you can tell 87 is the year they started to lose some of the fans from the beginning of the run. Haha, I loved those goofier characters though. My first order from Avacs was high quality as well, so definitely a big thanks for the recommendation. Blizzard & Countdown’s helmets both look great. ————— Loving the Countdown! He’s pretty much perfect, can’t even think of how I’d improve him in any way. Build, sculpt, coloring.....all spot on. Love the texturing on the green parts, that’s what I felt my Marauder kitbash was missing so I’ll definitely be doing a little sculpting when I decide to finalize mine. Then you got such great coloring on the blue. Glad you tackled this one, both so I could see it and also because the character has some meaning to you. Awesome addition to your Joe’s! Hopefully my v1 and v2’s come sooner than later. I'm really liking the idea of you doing the Best of the 90s thread. I'll keep bothering you to make Pirates of Black Water. Lol. Them and Captain Planet are the only two 90s properties I would consider making to add to my collection. I liked Pirates. I've never seen Captain Planet but he is iconic. Honestly I think Countdown is one of my better customs period. I'm really happy with everything about the custom and that never happens. Thanks! One of my favorite Joes and for once a custom I'm completely happy with.

Right, like you and I have talked about you came on knowing what was popular. Those of us born before had no idea Transformers would beat out Go-Bots, that GI Joe would be what it became that lines like Visionaries and Sectaurs would fail. I was there buying them all as a kid thinking they were all so great. Joe was always king to me followed by Thundercats. You knew what 80s properties were popular and then got to enjoy the 90s stuff too.

Hahaha, I love how your favorite 90’s show was one that was an instant channel changer to me. I gave Pirates of Dark Water zero time, they were on the list with Reboot where I heard the opening theme begin and that was my alarm to say it was time to go outside and play. Yeah, Countdown is really great. Glad you are happy with him because you are usually pretty hard on your customs. —————— The Cobras look great! Such an epic group of troopers, the original Joe designers just killed it with these. Then glad we got pretty amazing figures for all of them.

Haha, nah, I got hooked on a bunch of 80’s stuff that all you guys allowed to fail. It wasn’t until I was older where I realized what was actually popular and what wasn’t. I’m still holding out hope for the Food Fighters, Army Ants and Barnyard Commandos to have their day in the sun. Saw someone brought back the Barnyard Commandos which makes me laugh. Didn’t see that coming. Then I went through the same thing in the 90’s where I took to Exo Squad, Toxic Crusaders & Double Dragon and then watched Power Rangers engulf everything while I was like, “why?”

Dang man Food Fighters, Army Ants and Barnyard Commandos.....yeah never got into any of those. If they weren't action figures that at least resembled humans I skipped it. I need to watch it again. I vaguely remember it now. I did think it was good back then but obviously being in the 90s I never had any of the toys or anything. So I honestly couldn't tell you anything about it. I agree those are the best of the Cobra troops.

I'm calling this 88-89 Joes even though Countdown is the only 89 and I realized I left Chuckles out of the 87 picture so he is here too.
88-89 Joes

So I honestly couldn't tell you anything about it. I agree those are the best of the Cobra troops. Yeah, I watched a ton of 90’s cartoons but then didn’t ask for a lot of toys in general so a lot of the future Best of the 90’s thread will be me making all of those figures I wanted back in the day, haha. In the 90’s I mostly stuck to one line at a time, Turtles, then WWF, Joe, G2 Transformers, back to Joe, a brief stint with Star Trek Generations, Exo Squad and then ended with POTF2 Star Wars. Very rare that anything else slid in as a one off but I did have the awesome Mario & Luigi from the Mario Brothers movie. Haha. ————— Your 88-89 Group looks great! Love how they had a guy for any type of mission there. Your customs really build out that group, love the Budo. Think my favorite official release is the Muskrat. He was a great Club figure. Battle force 2k are looking badass as well! Glad you picked them up because I really like what the club did with that group. Hated them growing up so the modern versions did a lot to turn me into a fan of the characters. Blaster & Dodger are my favorites there. Then love what they did with the unofficial members in Dee-Jay and Backstop as well.

Thanks. Me too. The 25th line got me back into it. I thought I'll just pick up a couole of my favorites and well.....it turned into this. Having the Joes in modern form in this scale eventually inspired this project so I guess its all worked out.
I'm hoping to get to work on the last two Sectaurs and Overlord from Blackstar. They are next on my desk. Looking forward to your next projects and loving that Cobra team shot! ;) Last edited by LEEE777; 06-05-2021 at 12:20 AM.. |
