I don't make a bunch of Joe customs but Blizzard was always one of my favorites and we didn't get him in the 25th or any other modern line and I didn't really care for the club version.
After seeing Steel Brigade's custom in his awesome MTF thread I was inspired to make my own. Blizzard Club version and custom

One of things that always makes me the most happy, is when I can inspire somebody. This thread is chock full of awesome, all over the spectrum, there's not another thread quite like it! So being able to bring the fire to someone as talented as you Flint, is really amazing.
It's a testament to your craft how much better yours is than the Club's. You added a LOT of great details, the hood & the legs in particular I really really like, & as usual you gave it a 110%. Bravo my friend! Bravo! |

After seeing your customs I've looked at the 90s Joes and some are really cool looking just not my Joes. Pretty sure I just got some repaints and then Countdown in 89 so for me he represents the end and since I'm limiting my displays to just one version of each character no sub teams for me if they are made up of existing members. So once my Blizzard and Countdown customs are done that's it. I may add the club Sneak Peek and Charbroil if I see them for a good price at JoeFest.
Thundarr was awesome along with Blackstar well to kid me they were awesome anyway. I still need to give Conan a watch. I'm sure your group pics will be epic since you have more of the figures than me and you will go through 94 unlike me. Can't wait to see them especially with all the customs you may have the full ARAH figure run. You should start a Best of the 90s thread and make all of those when you finish the Joes. Just an idea. Started looking through the years and I have more done than I thought. Mainly just stragglers who I haven’t decided how to build like Fridge or ones that I know how I am doing them but haven’t committed to all the sculpting yet like Hydro Viper. Haha, when I start moving away from Joe’s a bit, I’ll get the 90’s thread started if I get some momentum making those figures. I don’t sculpt nearly as quickly as you do though so mine will take a lot longer. ————— The 87 Cobras are awesome! A lot of nostalgia for me in that group. Loved the Cobra La trio because of the movie, Mindbender because of season 2 of the cartoon, Raptor because of the NES game, Big Boa & Croc Master because they both had badass designs and then Crystal Ball because he was one of two Joe’s I picked out the first time I actually got to pick out ones for my mom to buy me. Crystal Ball & Marine blues Gung Ho. Haha, I don’t remember my brother being impressed with my choices. Oh man, Blizzard was another favorite of mine because of the NES game and how cool the original figure looked. Another that didn’t make it to me. Finally got him from a flea market with no gear, better late than never. Need to get a helmet for him and at least his gun. This one came out looking badass! Love how you got all the color breaks in there for him. He was so unique so the extra effort to get some paint on there and sculpt some bits really makes him scream Blizzard. That hood is perfect, then love the shots with his skis and gun. Excellent job! You and Steel Brigade cemented it, I’m definitely making a Blizzard at some point. I like the Club version, he’s just more “Joe arctic trooper” than Blizzard to me.

Definitely had some really cool guys in the 90’s. Battlecorps gave us a lot of new versions of the classic characters that hadn’t been released in years, then the new group in the early 90’s were all very original with awesome accessories.

I mean no comparison to the 80s characters but you can't help when you were born. Lol. 87 Cobras were out there pretty far but they had some awesome characters. Blizzards helmet is from Avacslab. I just painted the visor. He does amazing work. Countdowns helmet also came from him I just painted it.

This guy was special to me as he represents my final Joe I got as a kid. 89 was my last year of buying Joes and while I got some of the repaints he was the one new character I picked up.
Countdown

Flint,
Loving that Cobra ‘87 grouping bud ;) And dang, that Blizzard is sooo much better than the Club version we got, not that I have ever owned the Club version myself, that or the TF one but yours is MUCH better by far, great to see a pic of them both together to compare. ;) Very cool Countdown, liking it a lot dude, with me as a kid I stopped collecting in 92, kinda missed all the Ninja Force, Street Fighter an all them Aliens etc lol, was back though in the 00’s! Looking forward to what you do next! Lee. |

Having the Joes in modern form in this scale eventually inspired this project so I guess its all worked out. I'm hoping to get to work on the last two Sectaurs and Overlord from Blackstar. They are next on my desk.

I've looked at the 90s Joes. I dont understand why they didn't just make those guys new characters as they didn't really resemble the originals in any way.
You know a 90s thread would be awesome. Haha, I didn’t miss the 80’s, I was around for half of it! It just meant I also got a taste of the badass 90’s! We’ll need a big crossover Event when I catch up in figures so the Karate Kommandos can meet the Double Dragon and Centurians can team up with Exo Squad. Yeah, you can tell 87 is the year they started to lose some of the fans from the beginning of the run. Haha, I loved those goofier characters though. My first order from Avacs was high quality as well, so definitely a big thanks for the recommendation. Blizzard & Countdown’s helmets both look great. ————— Loving the Countdown! He’s pretty much perfect, can’t even think of how I’d improve him in any way. Build, sculpt, coloring.....all spot on. Love the texturing on the green parts, that’s what I felt my Marauder kitbash was missing so I’ll definitely be doing a little sculpting when I decide to finalize mine. Then you got such great coloring on the blue. Glad you tackled this one, both so I could see it and also because the character has some meaning to you. Awesome addition to your Joe’s! Hopefully my v1 and v2’s come sooner than later.
