Silver lining take: Amazon made 2 seasons of a Jack Ryan show and a "Without Remorse" movie (that will likely tie into said show in the future). I would think that there is a lot of overlap in the GI Joe and Tom Clancy fan bases. Also, this acquisition gives them a stake in the Bond franchise, * which I'd guess also maps pretty well to the GI Joe fanbase.
My understanding is that Paramount, not MGM, is the primary driver of the planned GI Joe productions. So if their partnership stays and they don't cancel all of the planned GI Joe productions outright, but instead shift it to Amazon Prime, we very well could see MORE GI Joe content overall. Think lower budget for the future movie(s), but also less pressure to be an in-theater, tentpole blockbuster. And new TV shows--both live action or animated--could be a boon to supporting future toy lines. A new animated show, especially, could broaden the fan base. Because, let's be honest, GI Joe is an adult collector toy line now. It really has been since the 25th toys appeared. There was a chance to expand to kids with Renegades, but The Powers That Be, spiked it after one very good season** in favor of the Retaliation movie. Even with all of the mistakes they've made lately in Classified product distribution, it appears that Hasbro really is investing in GI Joe for at least the next couple of years. Let's not panic just yet. *EON Productions has a very hands-on approach with the Bond movies, so Bezos might not get to meddle in that as much. **I know that opinions vary about Renegades and that it was not everyone's cup of tea. Don't @ me. It wasn't ARAH, but it was reimagining the Joe mythos in interesting ways. Last edited by CombinedArms; 05-26-2021 at 11:36 AM.. Reason: typo |

There was a lot to like about Renegades. There were probably some smaller petty problems I had with it that I've since forgotten, but for me the only major problem was that they were mostly fighting monsters instead of Cobra troops. I thought the animation was good and the styles were good. I agree with your general premise.

Renegades felt more like Scooby Doo guest starring G.I Joe.

Ah, who cares.
Why couldn’t Hasbro get their hands on MGM? We could’ve gotten some James Bond figures.

I read that as Live-action GI Joe and Action Man series first, don’t ask me why lol? Anyways, lets hope Hollywood don’t mess them up!
