Is it the dude that literally when he types sounds like he either reads from a Wikipedia article or a military encyclopedia?

Yo guys check out the "Declassified is not military" thread. It's hilariously full of those guys who are all like "since this is not real US Army it is a communist attack on America!" One guy is even unironically calling these "unamerican" people "beta males" when he's the one who's being overly sensitive about a fictional toy brand not explicitly saying its a subdivision of the US Military (which it hasn't been for years)

The only ones that seem to be really against it are the ones that either are or where in the military. Like your insulting their way of life or something.

Yeah its almost like if someone doesn't explicitly say "Yeah! Go America! We love the army!" they take it like you're personally attacking them. I never said I didn't support the military, as in fact I do support our military and our veterans. I just don't see why its so important that a kids toyline full of laser guns and other sci fi stuff needs to be a subdivision of the US Army. But of course to them that makes me a "communist beta male". They try to act all macho and "alpha" when they are the most easily offended insecure guys on the tank.

Crazy. While I am very much for spirited debate, I feel like this one is a shit stirrer thread.

I like the military. My father was a marine in Vietnam, grandfather was in world war 2, and numerous other relatives served in some branch. I just think the way our culture and the military is these days goes overboard with it. You wouldn't see a WW 2 veteran when they came home slap stickers all over their car or house pointing out that they are a veteran, etc. They would hang a flag and maybe wear a hat. I think we throw the word hero around too much as well. Just because you go over seas does not make you a hero. Not nowadays.
I'm sure I am going to ruffle some feathers with those words as well. Going to war for oil is a helluva lot different than preventing genocide. I'm sure a lot of other stuff happened in the middle east that we as civilians didn't see. Bad stuff. However, we got our own problems here in the states we need to fix before trying to solve someone else's that should be doing it themselves. We are not the world police. I'm not sure I agree with the reasons either but that is for another time. I'm just not sure about the hero narrative. Did they serve yes which I respect I just think we as a country go crazy for it to the point that it is all some guys identify with. GI Joe started out being mainly military but it expanded and hasn't been for a long time. People just need to accept that. Quote:

Also another thing to note is I've noticed in recent years the armed forces as well as the police attract the "jacked truck" crowd of guys who act like a holes to others but get easily offended themselves while trying to be macho and "tough" . Again, not all of them are like that, but I have come across quite a lot of them recently. Its almost like the military/police is for wannabe badasses instead of noble people wanting to serve their country. |

I agree with you guys. My father served in Vietnam. There is no hero sign in front of his house. My father served in Vietnam, there is no Veteran sticker on his vehicle. I fully support our veterans and I am grateful for those who have served and are serving. My dad is my hero, but I’m pretty sure he isn’t yours. He will take the benefits, but he isn’t advertising it unless he can get a discount at the local steak house. Yeet, Shadow, cheers!
