GUYZ! DID U KNO JOE IS NOT A REAL AMERICAN HERO NOW!!!??? Why does this conversation keep popping up? Is it so hard for people to realize that Hasbro wants G.I. Joe to be an international brand sold around the world, which is a place made up of a shit-ton of people who aren't American?
We have a few old timers at work. They always reflect on how things were done at work back in the 80s. Was it easier? No. Was it more advanced? No. Was it better and safer? No. Was it familiar? Yes. Was it what they knew? Yes. Some people, in certain areas, can't embrace change. I would argue with them and laugh because they are so stuck on how things were done in the 80s at work. I tell them, "It's not the 80s anymore guys!" But then I started thinking, "Holy shit! I do the same thing!" Is there anything that you've liked growing up that you're not too fond of the change? Me...I reflect how the music was so much better back in the 80s and 90s. Whether it's Hip Hop, R&B, Rock, even Country(and I hate Country), in my opinion, back then music sounded better, the lyrics made more sense, had substance and meaning, it even flowed better. A lot of times I can't stand today's Hip Hop, ugh! I hate what it has become. Don't get me wrong, there are a few artists that I like but why? because they bring that flavor that I like, that I relate to. These guys are doing the same. They feel that with the changes to, not GI Joe itself, but to already established characters in the GI Joe lore, it's taking away what they love about these characters, what they've accepted about these characters, taking away how they may have personally identified with these particular characters. I'm sure we all do it sometimes with somethings. |

I'm sure we all do it sometimes with somethings. This is a good way to explain/look at the phenomenon. Well said Bartek. I have a theory about why older folks think the music of their day is far better than the music of "today". It's because when older folks think about the music of "their day", they're really looking at music and musicians from 20-40 years, and comparing it to music of the past 4-5 years. So yeah, when you compare 20-40 years of music to 4-5 years of music, it's not going to compare! For example, you can't say "the musicians of my day", and then rattle off Miles Davis, Jimi Hendrix, Stevie Wonder, Michael Jackson, AND Eddie Veddar. You're taking credit for too many decades, lol. Also, there's the issue of Musicians that span 30-40 years. Which decade gets credit for U2.....Michael Jackson...or Tony Bennet? I think, overall, when you break down each decade of music and compare them....I think they compare pretty well.
