I just thought I would point out, my own personal experience, of pre-ordering exclusives online. It's jarring how much smoother it's been with Walmart Vs Target.
I was able to pre-order the following exclusive items from Walmart, and all of them have shown up in near mint packaging: Retro Awe Strikers Retro Scarlett X2 Retro Lady Jay x2 Retro Snake Eyes Retro Boba Fett x5 Retro Star Wars Wave 2 TVC MANDO & CHILD 2pack X2 TVC Incenerator Trooper x3 Black Series Mandalorian Super Commando Black Series Mandalorian Loyalist Black Series 322nd Ahsoka’s Clone Trooper Black Series Ahsoka Tano TVC Carbonized - Mando TVC Carbonized - Cara Dune TVC Carbonized - Death Trooper TVC Carbonized - Remnant Stormtrooper There's probably others I'm not remembering, but you get the picture. Now let's compare to what I've been able to successfully pre-order and receive from Target: Black Series Mountain Trooper Black series Hondo Shang-Chi Katy Meanwhile, the list of what I could not preorder online from Target: Classified Viper Classified BeachHead Classified Baroness Classified Trooper Classified Firefly Black Series Deluxe Mando Black series Remnant Stormtroper Retro Prototype Boba Fett Credit Collection Cara Dune And these are just the ones off the top of my head. This tells me, the problem is Target, not Hasbro. I'm sure some of you are reading this and saying "duh". But I keep hearing about how Walmart is worse than Target for exclusives. Really? Does the list above not say otherwise? I haven't even talked about Gamestop, where I have been able to buy EVERY exclusive they've had, with ease. Online purchases are clearly the present/future of toy buying for collectors. Target needs to get their act together. Ok, Target bitch-fest over.

Until last year, at least in my experience, Wal-Mart was absolutely worse than Target for being able to get exclusives (either online or in-store).
Last year that flipped, but only barely. Wal-Mart is still sucky, but Target really screwed up with most of their GI Joe and Star Wars Exclusives. Marvel has been marginally better but even some of those were harder to get than usual. But again...prior to last year, I rarely had any trouble getting Target exclusives, and usually didn't even need to preorder them because they were reasonably plentiful in-store. |

Well, I was speaking specifically to online pre-orders, particularly the past couple years. Going back a little further (2019), that Target Black Series Cabonized Mando wasn't easy to get either. (Thanks to Slice for the hook up on that). But even simply from a modern technology stand point, going back a few years, Target's website was/is an antique! Not on par with other major retailers, in my opinion.

No joke there dude, if Gamestop shows it as in stock, I've been able to get it every single time. I only had one issue, and that was two PDDestros that took a month to show up. That was at the height of our lockdowns here though, so they get a pass. If they were more geared towards action figures and less towards games, we'd have a clear winner. Shit, they should switch. The writing's already on the wall with their current business model.

Though they haven't announced this, I kind of think they're trending that way. I've been in a few locations, that have done some major remodeling, and the collectibles seem to outnumber the gaming stuff. I inquired about this, and was told the layout depends more on the size of location, and not an indication of a corporate focus shift. Regardless, it does seem like they are leaning fully into collectibles. I think it would be a smart move, considering Gamestop is now the closest thing to a brick and mortar toy store that we have left.

I definitely prefer Walmart because I was actually able to pre-order their exclusives and they arrived (not always in great condition but they arrived). If it weren't for Walmart's website, the only retro items I'd have would be a bunch of HISS tanks, Duke and Snake Eyes. But I have everything they've released so far so I am happy.
With Target, I couldn't pre-order in the three seconds pre-orders were live, I couldn't buy from their site after the figures were released OR find the items in stores. Then they eventually cut us off from even being able to check the store inventory online. So yeah, I hate them. Ha. I'm sure they don't set out to make people angry at them but they sure don't do much to fix it.

I'll pre-order a vehicle through Walmart but not a figure, I've had them show up in bags or envelopes once too often.

Outside of Wave 1 of Retro I have gotten every single preorder I've put in through Walmart. I only received Snake Eyes from Wave 1.

I missed out on all the Retro figures except Snake Eyes. Caught me by surprise.
