thanks for the tip. I been looking for make custom decals without investing into the printer myself. Great!
BRUDER tracks I have are 30 and 40mm ( about 1 1/4 and 1 1/2 approx ) the width is not the issue with the mauler, but the thickness is. someone on Youtube recommended me the Pz3 and Pz4 tracks in 1/16 scale. typically 1/16 scale is too big, but these tanks are kinda medium size with narrow tracks. Heng long makes them in plastic with pins. cheap. coming in soon to try out. might be reliable for outdoors, but without rubber inserts might not beat the stock mauler tracks... in grip! here some pictures of wheel work. Mauler, equalizer and my custo warthogs all share the roadwheel from the Mauler. some cosmetic changes. I am adapting tamiya 1/25 centurionand chieftain outer wheels, which are ABS and not styrene, therefore very durable. plus better detail than my own printed wheels. on my small printer, it takes about 1,5 hours to print one mauler/warthog roadwheel. with high chances of failure because of warpage or support fusing on wheel, rending it unusable. different materials behave differently, I have found a drab green filament almost matching the warthog. printing anything flat larger than a quarter is a challenge. especially now that my machine is worn, aged... Can't wait to see the next track set.
I dug these up. These are the photos I always post when I recommend Bad Mother, so you may have seen these before: I used MicroSet and MicroSol with Bad Mother's made-to-order decals to do both of those figures. They don't come pre-cut, but that's really the only drawback and cutting decals isn't really tough anyway.

thanks! very clean I am impressed on such large pics that I cannot pick up any flaws. dang. Just checked Bad mother's stuff. Holy cow !!! Might get tats and graffiti everywhere haha! awesome stuff
Here's some pics regarding mauler/warthog motorizations using the VS tank gearboxes. Sadly found out that VS tank is out of business and all our ebay finds are leftovers. I had a vs tank 1/24 T72 Tank a while back. I did a dumb thing and cut a mauler lower hull ( C channels) to drop the unmodified gearbox into it. this compromised the mauler hull integrity. snapping hull together and potential for rear wall fracture. this is a bad idea. so today I cut the t72 gearbox and voila. The reason I had ditched this gearbox back then was it is bulky and noisey. it has some kind of clutch/equalizing clutch inside and does not run the way i like. Maybe QC? YMMV? The KV1 gearbox can be installed in the mauler with no permanent modifications. and the mauler can be reverted to the stock large white gearbox brick. The t-72 gearbox is much more bulky and will require cutting the tabs inside the mauler lower hull. But since it is an option for moving forward, let's see what else is significant. It has drive wheels that are smaller than the KV1. about half the size. I suspect the motors have similar specs, but I bet the gearbox ratios are different. output wheel on kv1 being twice the size of the t-72, I suspect they intended both toys to be within a ballpark speed. this means that if installed in a mauler, the t-72 gearbox should yield a higher top speed. however, it could sacrifice the low speed /precise maneuvering under load based on the motors and electronics. for example, none of my RC conversions use the stock tamiya 130 motors. these have an abrupt curve and in my opinion can not provide a smooth behavior from the bottom up. only one way to find out, try it out ! if you can also find the t-72 tracks, ( rubber or individual links) these can be used as a direct fit on the mauler. see pics

I don't remember if this has come up before or not, but I was just looking at some toys online today and thought to mention this to you. Do you have any Power Team Elite World Peacekeepers tank tracks on-hand by any chance? They're rubber like the Mauler tracks and they're in current production still. If you write to M&C Toys in Hong Kong you might be able to get them to sell you some tracks all by themselves rather than having to shell out for the entire tanks they come on. You can see their 1:18 offerings here:
https://www.mctoy.com.hk/index.php/i...s/2/0?lang=eng They aren't shy about selling loose accessories from their sets (here) so they might indulge a request for loose/replacement tank tracks.

wow, thanks Zap! always providing valuable solutions & resources.
Dang. their product line up is amazing. will dig into these soon. I discovered that the rubber tracks of my old bruder mini excavator fit the Maggot... not that I am getting sidetracked with more projects. am finishing one last project at my job before going back on warthog baths, fixes and completion. I could use a bigger table. am doing my work and my hobbies on the same table. when work gets heavy , joe stuff gets boxed up. back and forth. awaiting the 1/16 henglong panzer 3-4 plastic tracks. Stock mauler tracks are pretty well made. just so much about that specific toy that is such good quality. meanwhile enjoy some old pictures of some sort of Australian Battalion assigned to some armored expedition on Cobra Island. there are rumors of infiltrators already. Great pics! I bet it took some work to get the Sarge's giant noggin into one of those hats.

here is the retrieval buoy. the idea is to have several feet of strong string. and hope that the length is greater than the depth of the pond. annnd that where the string is attached is strong enough... that the warthog doesn't tear when lifted up full of water...
seems overkill? ask me about the toys I have lost at the bottom of lakes. next step: life vests for each joes. it's 2021 folks. The joe team cannot afford lawsuits. blame them crimson twins! Last edited by Joecollection18; 05-10-2022 at 01:41 AM.. |

Smart. I like how you posed all the Joes facing the float as if they’re all thinking “I really really really hope we don’t have to use this.” It almost looks like the toy was designed to deploy that through the center hole with a large winch below. Very cool.

How much does your fully-loaded Warthog weigh when it's going into the lake (without the buoys or string)?
