I'd probably prefer one well-supplied army builder over a wave that's released one figure at a time on their website.
Maybe the DoCI Range Viper body with a new vintage style head sculpt? The remakes never quite captured the creepiness of the original... |

Now, compare those with "action figure" lines Star Wars, GIJoe, X-Men, Batman, etc. The playsets for these toy lines show up regularly on the Clearance aisles or in after-market stores like Ollies. Why? Well, like Bob Osbourne blamed the decline of BMX bikes in the movie "Joe Kid on a Stingray," I blame Nintendo and the rise of home video games sales. I am the father of 12 children (8 boys and 4 girls). Despite my efforts to nudge each of them (especially the boys) toward playing with action figures (and believe me, we went through spells of collecting GIJoe Spy Troops, Star Wars Revenge of the Sith, Power Rangers, Imaginext, etc.) the more video games became readily available, especially now on tablets and smart phones, the less interested they became in toys. There's a whole article I've read about children feeling "punished" from their electronics and being made to play outside and/or with toys, but hey that's still a rule in my house with the three remaining children at home. So, it is just the nature of the beast IMHO and Hasbro needs to give their original action figure line the attention it does Lucasfilm/Disney's baby and offer the older, collector's base better vehicles and/or playsets through Haslab. I just don't see the average parent choosing to buy their 8-10 year old child a $50-60 GIJoe vehicle over the latest Nintendo, Playstation, and/or XBox game. And I think the market has confirmed this for at least the last decade. Jason |

Well if you think about at that time Star Wars was gone. I think I gout out of GI Joe by 1991. The last Joe item I got was the Badger. The home video game craze hit me too.

I don't think you can blame everything on video games. We had Atari, and at the time that was huge, but we still played with our toys. I'll throw two alternative factors into the mix.
1-McFarlane toys turning action figures into statues. They appealed to older kids but had no play value. They also upped the expectations for what an action figure should be - size, paint apps, realism. And now we have 6" "action" figures, but mostly they're just little statues. 2-Lego licensing. I know that with my kids it was way better to get a Marvel lego set than to buy action figures. The lego set would have at least one vehicle and usually several heroes. Plus lego is more "educational" because you can rebuild it and reuse things. My kids never got into star wars or marvel figures but played with lego all the time.

I was still a kid in 90's when there was a rapid rise in video games. On Saturdays or during the summer, being a kid with limited responsibilities, there is a solid 12-14 hours each day for play. We could easily fit in 2-3 hours of cartoon watching, 2-3 hours of video games, 2-3 hours of shooting hoops, 2-3 hours playing with action figures, an hour of hide n seek, and still have time to sit around and ponder life itself (aka smell the roses)! Kids today want to spend the full 12-14 hours with their eyes glued to a screen. It's depressing.

Walked in to a Walmart this past weekend that had 14! Hisstanks that at this point I'm using the term peg warming. Kind of surprised they aren't selling better, but guess I shouldn't be. And to think the toy show I was at in the fall was trying to charge $55 for those.

Also, as you pointed out back in the 80s, (90s for yourself) we all did a little of everything. We all probably played at least one sport, had at least one hobby, played in the street, in addition to video games. Today’s kids seem to be focused on one thing to an unhealthy level. What I’m not sure of is, if it’s the fault of the children or the world we live in. Today’s schools and little leagues expect the kids to live like little professionals. My old high school expects kids on the baseball team to sign up for this private travel summer league in order to qualify for the school team and basically play 12 months a year with no time for anything else. Today’s video games seem to require as much dedication. There seems to be not time for just hanging out with friends and getting into the Rockwellian childhood mischief and kids only get to focus on one aspect of childhood. It turns our youth into single dimensional little robots. My daughter’s high school band wanted her pretty much EVERY weekend, there was no time for her basketball, or friends much the less video games. It turned her off so badly that after she graduated she never played again, and she was first chair in a NYC, city wide all star band. Shame, they are burning these kids out,
