With the possibility that the Vortious custom order I put in might take a while, I've started thinking about alternate options for my next custom. I realize I pretty much have all the parts I'm looking for on me (minus a brown leather jacket piece) I've also realized I could take a Marauder torso I have and use another pair of Marauder arms as jacket sleeves. I've seen some options in the forums on how to split a MTF torso, but I was wondering what the general consensus was on how to split them and what your experiences with them have been like?

I tend to heat the torso up (I use a cup of hot water), and then place a pair of needle nose pliers inside the torso cavity (at right angles to the seam) and pull apart. The torso should come apart reasonably easily with no damage to the outside of the figure.
I think the dress shirt sleeves work quite well as jacket sleeves (some may think they are too thin), some of the ww2 arms would also make good jacket sleeves. |

Has anyone noticed that the newer MTF torso (that I believe feature a new type of sonic weld) are a lot harder to open up?
Tore apart a nice Night Ops torso using the same plier method I’d had good success with previously. I asked axonrey about it and he was super helpful. Last edited by Dod Ear; 04-20-2021 at 10:11 AM.. |

Funny enough, I had to use pliers on the red t-shirt one because the vice method wasn't doing a damn thing. It took a while, but I was able to split it. I got the German soldier's arms in the red t-shirt torso. When I get the jacket vest piece, I think the arms are gonna make for some nice sleeves.
Another MTF torso question, if I may? I got the split red shirt torso put together. I haven't glued it yet, but I did notice when I placed the torso on a pair of MTF jeans, it was a little wobbly. When everything is glued, would the fit be better or is this a common thing when a torso is split? |

Tore apart a nice Night Ops torso using the same plier method I’d had good success with previously. I asked axonrey about it and he was super helpful. Had my first "damage" to a torso. Let my pliers slip a little and it stressed the waist line a bit and causes a bit of material displacement- fairly minor compared to other experiences I've seen. I think the biggest note on the newer torsos is to make sure the pliers or snap rings are as deep in the socket as possible, and line it with a cloth or some such to mitigate concentrated pressure points. It's odd to me that MTF changed the process knowing that popping torsos is pretty common among their faithful- unless, I guess, it was a factory decision and wasn't really up to them. I don't know how all that works.

I can't imagine they changed it up on purpose. Probably just the factory that thought it'd be a good idea.
Are the contract ops sonic welded? Because i cracked one recently using a visa, and it went super smooth. |
