A few years back I bought a Sky Raven on eBay in need of some parts and a coat of chrome.
I sent the shell out to be vac metalized and was more than pleased with the results. Some time later I saw the Retroblasting video on YouTube where Michael showed off the custom Sky Patrol Conquest he had purchased and I knew that I needed to try my hand at making one for myself. I found a Conquest shell and completed it buying a Skystriker shell and doing the same along the way. Then the project sat on the back burner for a little over a year until recently when I decided to send out both the Conquest and Skystriker to get the chrome treatment. I separated the parts I wanted to chrome from the ones I wanted to paint flat black and the ones that needed no paint or chrome and shipped them off to be vac metalized. While I waited I sprayed the pieces I had saved and bought stickers from Toyhax to complete the customs when the chrome process was finished. A few weeks later I received the chrome parts and assembled the 2 newest members of my Sky Patrol fleet, the results left me floored. I think they’re the most beautiful G.I. Joe vehicles I own. I have included pics of my restored Sky Raven along with them. I hope you all enjoy seeing them. |

They look very cool . They look even shinier than the originals! (not sure how chromey they were when new, but just judging by catalogue pictures!).
Was it very expensive to chrome them? one must admit they did a very good job of it. I might have added a bit of brown just to make it look more toylike, but superb results nevertheless.
