Looks like the power ranger they said was a Target exclusive is up on pulse under exclusives. That could be a good sign.

Man I’m glad I snagged a few Classifed Beachheads. Those damn things are going for 6 times their retail cost!
Scalpers are having a fucking field day with that one

Beachhead is arguably the best 'Joe' figure produced so far. Funny thing is, he was one of the only figures I ever saw on the pegs more than once. (the other being CI Roadblock) He didn't seem nearly as rare when he came out.

I've got absolutely no regrets getting mine even at scalper prices. Easily the best Joe figure hands down!

Except it's not even a temporary solution. The idea "we won't have preorders at all or announce the release date!" addresses a small part of a problem, but even then only temporarily.
Say the Major Bludd release date is today, 9 April (PURE HYPOTHETICAL FOR THOSE WHO DON'T READ EVERYTHING). If Target announced that, irrespective of preorders, they'd have customers in store today on the 9th asking for the figure, demanding floor associates go back and scour the trucks, root through stock, etc. By eliminating the announced release date, they've only moved that target. They won't ask on the 9th b/c they don't know that date is there. But they will ask on the very first day they catch word that someone, somewhere in the US found a Major Bludd in Target. Is that after the 9th? Before? All of the above? Yes. Thinking through this more fully now, it may make the problem of customers demanding staff time to search and look through stock, verbally harassing staff - sadly this policy may make that *worse*. But eliminating preorders doesn't hurt scalpers, because they weren't getting the majority of their product from the online preorders. They got them after release. It doesn't prevent them from going to stores and buying cases out. It changes next to nothing about how scalpers operate. The most optimistic interpretation of this change in policy is Target essentially saying "we know we're the drizzling shits at preorder fulfillment and failing in our mission of delivering to customers. so we're not going to try anymore." Yeah, thinking through this a bit more fully, this will absolutely make things worse for consumers and for Target staff. It is astonishing to think this company became a global retail monolith, given the knowledge of how they operate. Quote:
Removing the "target" date (no pun intended) just means people will be coming in EVERY day looking and asking and hounding and stalking for Joes. One of the smartest things Target did with the Viper release (I'm not sure if every store did it) was LIMIT them to ONE per customer. Of course that only helped the first 6 or so people in line because many of the stupid stores only had *1* case, but normally the first clown in the door would have got all 6. They should do the same online; limit the number a credit card/address/account, etc can buy. Will resellers find a way around this using different people? Yes, but no more bots buying a couple dozen in 2 seconds. Quote:
Maybe, maybe not.
Target's been doing a lot of work on their inventory systems to try to prevent third-party sites like Popfindr and Brickseek from being able to tap into them. So if that works, and there are no preorders it's a level playing field for everyone, and it also prevents botted-up buyers from emptying the entire preorder inventory in seconds. Many of us used those third-party sites to find stuff. That's how I acquired most of my classified figures. I'd run the numbers and if a local or simi-local store had something, I'd zip over there. If I was on the road, I'd use the sites to check surrounding stores to see which ones were worth my time. See, I have a life. Work, errands, places to go, people to meet, things to do. Scalper scum do not. They CAN hit Target EVERY MORNING. They CAN spend most of a day in a store/visiting multiple stores to find figures. They CAN sit at a computer/on a cell phone hitting F5 on a website all day long. They CAN & DO have employees on the payroll (literally and figuratively) to give the heads-up on shipments. Since Classified first came out, many here can attest to that. Heck, how many employees have we heard of buying Joes themselves to flip? Double that number. Granted, conversations will be much shorter without the "your system says you have it, where is it?!" part, but the store will still have 50 people a day asking. Quote:

You act like toy exclusives are actually a big part of their business. It's not. As for Target Staff, they'll just put up those "We won't look in the back for toys" signs up everywhere, and point to them when people get angry about it. Because ultimately crying, angry man-babies are not worth their time and effort. There are millions of people who probably rarely or ever buy toys and don't give two shits about Hasbro exclusives that keep them in business and profitable.
I can't tell you how many times an employee would say "we don't have it" almost before I could finish the question, no matter how nicely I asked. A couple times I asked if they could check the back for something, and we start walking to the TWO PEGS where Joes should have been, and the employee stops about halfway and says "G.I.Joe? We don't have it." Never mind the accompanying looks. Bottom line is customers are customers, and employees have to engage people, and they don't know whos who until that happens. Yes, interactions will be shorter once employee dude says "talk to the sign", but 20 minutes later they'll be repeating the same thing.

Yes. A VERY good sign. It looks like there were 2000 units of the Red Ranger available. While not a lot the initial quantity available could have been a "proof of concept" number. I think Pulse Premium members will receive the "Back in Stock Just For You" emails about added availability.
