I'm sorry, i think it's condescending to say that it's ok to make cheap shoddy toys for kids. You know what else was made for kids? O-ring ARAH G.I. Joes!
I could buy two to three figures with my weekly allowance, and they were durable, detailed, well-painted figures with more articulation than Star Wars or anything else on the market. They had quality artwork and file cards on the card. All this is what made them the dominant brand of the era. I'll defend Hasbro where they deserve it, but let's be honest, they nailed it 35 years ago and there's little excuse for failing today at their own game. |

Same reason Apple was able to sell outdated spec laptops for years on end at a premium price :p Quote:
And if SE is specifically marketed to those kids Hasbro will be losing the real money pig, the collector base. And if they were specifically trying to market the new GI Joe to kids they would not be putting so much in a movie. They would put it into video games. I know they did the Fortnite and War thunder thing, but I am talking something like partnering with somebody like Ubisoft or even EA again to re design GI Joe into a well made video game franchise.
Ultimately, it's not about "selling a bunch of toys", it's building a brand that can become a recurrent revenue generator through things OTHER than toys. Every Transformers bed sheet, door mat, Figpin, cup, model, statue, book end, activity set, comic book, playing cards, valentines, candy, poster, Hasbro gets licensing revenue. The goal is to build GI Joe to that point. Games can be A PART of that, but not the single element upon which the entire brand can rely on. As is, there's more money to be made in MOBILE games, than a traditional console experience. Likely the only reason we got Blackout was because they were hoping to tie into the Snake Eyes film (prior to its delay).

Looking at the aesthetic, I do wonder when this film is gonna be set, what year to be exact. My initial speculation was around 1988-1990.

I gave my children a hard, but necessary lesson today. They were enjoying their toys, and I just took those pieces of sh!t, showed them my awesome collection of articulated figures, and threw their piece of crap toys in the trash. They were so excited because they thought that meant they could play with my super awesome articulated collection, but f@$k no! I smacked the taste out their mouth for even thinking something so stupid and told them toys were for adults.
Ha. Some of these responses are slaying me today! Bravo. (and also Bravo to smoke below)
