It seems a bit weird as an Amazon series when Paramount is wanting to push their upcoming streaming service. Perhaps Amazon was hey people like the female characters on The Expanse, does anyone else have some character that could kick some ass?
Fingers crossed they find a way to make Lady Jaye a distinct character instead of how the films have made the characters so generic that you could just plug and play code names. Perhaps these type of shows will allow character building like how in the ancient times we could pick up an issue of Special Missions to get more of a focus on a character outside of the bigger crazier stories. As someone that's cheap I'm happy it's a streaming service I already have. |

I definitely think you could do a good Lady Jaye series. Honestly you could do a good series on just about any decent character. Just based on her Covert Ops back ground, her character opens lots of possibilities in that tv format. Straight war stuff might be costly to produce or look to fake with tons of cgi. Yo Joe!

I think they'll go for an Latin American Lady Jay, like in the Renegades series.

I don’t care what ethnicity Jaye is. Just glad to have Joes. If the story and acting sucks, they will get critiqued and shredded equally.
Hope Flint is a hard ass Alpha. We got enough Betas.

As someone that's cheap I'm happy it's a streaming service I already have. In the case of Jaye, Amazon bought the IP. I will also go out on limb and predict that the Jaye Amazon title is not the Live-Action series that Hasbro spoke about yesterday at the conference - There was never a mention of the Amazon Lady Jaye title at all... after the Hasbro conference was over, the Amazon Jaye Series News was simultaneously released on several platforms and had nothing to do with the Hasbro Conference. It was said at the Conference that the new series will follow both the rebooted Joe Universe Snake Eyes: GIJoe Origins and the next new movie under the Paramount+ umbrella. It has been reported on several sites that the Amazon Jaye Series will be a tie-in to the unreleased second movie therefore taking place between Snake Eyes and yet to be titled next movie. I hope I am correct! We would be in for a treat! |

I think studio creatives and producers generally don’t want to be constrained in the creative process. They take and use what they like and throw out what they don’t. Lucasfilm disavowed a lot of great stories from canon because they wanted to give Marvel and the sequel directors cart Blanche. Sometimes you get someone like Favreau who embraces the constraints based on love of the source material but it’s rarer I think. I guess we will see what direction it goes. Certainly more Joe has to be good for everyone here. I’d prefer my Lady Jaye to look and sound like Sunbow but I’m not in charge. Yo Joe!
The Clone Wars and Rebels cartoon series are better than anything Disney has done. and that's all because of Dave Filoni, who actually loves Star Wars and doesn't try to rewrite history. The Mandalorian is better than any of Disney's Star Wars movies, again because of Dave Filoni's involvement. Disney would have been much better off using him for their Trilogy or sticking to some of the "expanded universe" or other books that Lucas had approved.. instead of just trying to use the biggest Hollywood names who were more interested in doing things their own egotistical way |

Sounds like it might be...one of you old farts help me out...like they say Mission Impossible was back in the day, a mission of the week with lots of disguises and sneaking around? Sort of like Scarlett and Zarana wore all those rubber masks in Sunbow in the day, or Zartan would morph into a crossing guard and give you bad directions?
Maybe LJ will be investigating an emerging new serpentine threat, introducing/developing our knowledge of Cobra as the serial element, while a team gradually coalesces around LJ to fight back. An actor with a lot of multilingual capability would be perfect, plus obviously with the physicality to run/dive/jump/whatever around an action set and look like it’s something she’s impeccably well trained in. Maybe like Ming-Na Wen, who plays a cool new bounty hunter friend of Boba Fett’s on The Mandalorian. Personally I like older actors for BAMFy roles, not this 18 y/o or 17-but-my-parents-signed-the-waiver Duke crap. 40s and 50s, the younger regulars in their 30s, then your Falcons and Jinxes in their late or mid-20s. Someone who’s paid their way by doing all the training and building up decades of experiences in all the worst places, not some kid who makes a snappy remark on their first day of college and then suddenly gets recruited by the CIA...landing a Little Bird on the grass in front of some Ivy League building. Another comp might be Sonja Sohn’s character on The Wire, Kima Greggs, or Keri Russell’s Nadezhda Smolenskaya/Elizabeth Jennings in The Americans. The point again being a BTDT character who has to take it to the next level, rather than a teenage coming of age story. Seems like there’d be a ton of potential for a Chuckles character too... |

I feel like a lot of people seem to have forgotten that there is already more than one female-led/Female Co-led spy/espionage thriller series that have enjoyed considerable success in the last couple decades (See: Alias, The Americans, Homeland).
So the question of whether or not Lady Jaye can anchor her own series is kind of moot. Cast a good actress with good scripts and decent or better directors and it won't be a problem. And I guarantee there will be at a minimum a shit-ton of easter-eggs concerning the Joe-verse, though probably they'll go even more overt than that. Someone doesn't license a "GI Joe" character to make a series that doesn't contain a considerable number of the trappings of the setting it's based on. Ironically, a Hama-esque portrayal of Cobra and its' origins would be pretty timely right now...probably a little TOO timely. |

Really? Then why did this thread blow up so quickly? Do you honestly believe that if Hasbro had announced this as a Duke series starring some blonde-haired, blue-eyed hunk that even a single person in this forum would fret about the show being too "woke" and "PC"? Yet it's revealed to be a Lady Jaye series and that's exactly what happened. Why would that be, do you think? In what way is Lady Jaye a symbol of wokeness? Gee, it couldn't possibly be because she's a girl, could it?
2. The thread blew up because a few people said "Hey, I really hope they do Lady Jaye justice" and a few others apparently randomly decided that the others were somehow sexist. 3. Finally, there is no Duke series, so your entire argument is based on what you imagine the reaction to a Duke series would be. There's no evidence that the reaction is based on gender, it's based on assumption. Give those other people the benefit of the doubt! It's a nicer world when we show each other a little kindness. Now you know, and knowing is half the battle! Quote:

Haven't seen anything with Mariska Hargitay, but she looked the part for sure. Growing up watching JAG I always thought Catherine Bell would be an amazing Lady Jaye, but they're probably looking for someone younger. Last edited by SnowCat; 02-26-2021 at 02:38 PM.. |
