Man stood in toy aisle for 8 hours, watched employee do "suspicious" things, and finally witnessed said employee (a store manager) sneak by and purchase an entire case of Vipers. Confronted him, got the manager to return 4 of them to customer service and he bought the returned ones.

Thank you for summarizing.
That is a virtual spanikopita of really uncomfortable things. Just layers upon layers there. Anecdotally, I wouldn't paint Target corporate for one shady employee (there's plenty disdain for Target corporate in their fulfillment and logistics inanity over this line that John Q FloorAssociate isn't so much on them), but also: 8 hours in the toy section? Ye gods.

Ye gods. Standing in a retail store for 8 hours hoping to find an action figure is already bad. Doing it during a global pandemic is worse. Confronting the employee for doing a bad thing is also dangerous. Yeah, nothing in the anecdote did anything but confirm that the way this industry/hobby is managed (and consumed) is problematic. |

If you happen to work retail, setting product aside is one of the benefits. The store still gets their money - so they don't care. Only way to solve it is to produce enough product to fill demand. Hard to put blame on some lowly Target employee when its not really their fault at all... |

Exactly. And the only figures I were able to get at retail price were the ones available online everywhere. I never got any of the Target exclusives, except for RB, for MSRP because none were available in store or online.

It's been nearly 30 years (yep, I'm old), but when I worked at Target our policy (not sure if it was store or corporate) was any purchase an employee made had to be off the clock and the item pulled from the floor. No stashing things to buy later. Somewhat funny, a huge part of my job was literally to walk around the store and ask customers if I could help them find anything.
