Hey everybody, this is my first post here in 9 years!
Anyway, I imagine some of you are fans/ collectors of the GI Joe Classified toy line. I was wondering if any of you have had a similar experience to mine, and if so, could you give me some advice. My story. I'm not a serious collector. I hadn't bought a GI Joe figure in over 20 years. I found out about this line this summer (after the first wave had come out.) I was new to collecting so I went to Big Bad Toy Store (the only collectible retailer I knew of at the time) and ordered the whole first wave. That was back in July. I'm still waiting for my order to be filled and shipped. 😡😡😡 Shortly after that I found out about the Target exclusive Baroness...which, of course, sold out before I could even get online. I'm still trying to get one but I'm not willing to pay 3x retail value for it. Then I found out about the Amazon exclusive Storm Shadow. I ordered it back in September. It also has not been filled or shipped. I've inquired about this to both customer service departments and they both said the same thing....they're waiting on shipments from Hasbro. So I was wondering if any of you have similar stories (misery loves company). Also, if any if you have any advice on how to proceed from here I'd be grateful. I'm frustrated. Frustrated enough to consider cancelling my orders and just giving up on this line. So again, any advice would be appreciated and feel welcome to vent here as well. |

Never got the Baroness. My friend in Texas never saw it so I never got it. Got sold out at TRU in Canada really quick (ie. the ones in my area, employees told me that one person bought them all).
I ordered the Amazon Storm Shadow but Amaazon.ca cancelled my order. So yeah, I feel your pain first hand.

According to recent, somewhat vague, information that Hasbro relayed to some toy news sites (including Destro here at HissTank), Classified demand way outstripped production and Hasbro was caught unaware. They plan to spend 2021 catching up with product and considering some re-releases/repaints to help customers get the early waves. However, the Target stuff is likely not included in that.
Classified has been somewhat frustrating to collect at times, but outside of the Target figures, almost everything else has been available for preorder (or instock order at Amazon) multiple times. I don't think the line is that much more difficult to buy online than Star Wars Black Series or Marvel Legends, where the hottest stuff is usually gone fairly quickly and doesn't show up on shelves to just sit. 2021 will be a better year for Classified and for latecomers to the line.

As for the Target exclusive stuff, yeah, there have been MANY people sharing the same experiences here. I can't even tell you how many times I rushed over to one of four different Targets to try to get Baroness only to find they had sold what little inventory arrived that day before I could even get there. I ended up buying her for 2.5x times retail price on EBay just to save myself more trips to Target. Their website is trash with no bot protection so scalpers get everything and honest/decent collectors get nothing. I may drop out of this entire hunt in the coming year because it isn't any fun at all. Hasbro sucks. Target sucks. Walmart sucks. Buying toys is not what it used to be. If I can't get Firefly or Viper at retail in the month of January, I'll probably just give up because there's no excuse for screwing over the fans like this over and over. They just go from one wave announcement to the next without paying any mind to the troubles the fans have had trying to get these figures. I'm sure someone will pounce on me and say they released the Cobra Infantry to make up for the Cobra Trooper Target fiasco but BLAH. That barely begins to cover it. And there is always someone that loves to chime in and say "I didn't have any trouble getting the Cobra Island figures at Target." Good for them. That's not the norm so don't let anyone tell you otherwise. I live in Michigan and I checked inventories for stores hundreds of miles from me just to see who was getting these figures. Basically nobody. At one point, I had determined that all the Targets in West Michigan had received a total of 6 or 7 of the Baroness figures. That's insane. That's because I checked their inventories every day for months. Even after I got my Baroness on EBay, I continued checking their inventories because it had become a habit. So yeah, if driving hundreds of miles just to find empty pegs then spending 2-5 times retail price to get the figures on EBay is what toy collecting is all about these days, then toy collecting is not for me. I'll stick to enjoying the figures I had no trouble getting at stores when I was a kid. |

Let me just say this, and I know this may not be helpful to you with your frustration, but I totally understand where you're coming from. Let me explain. Besides being a GI Joe fan, I'm also a Godzilla fan. Back in the 80s and 90s, I was a kid growing up loving the old Godzilla movies and not having any toys at all because back then Godzilla toys were no where to be found, and as a kid this was so frustrating and stressful. The only place you could actually find Godzilla toys were at comic stores in bigger cities like San Francisco, and even there they were insanely expensive because they were imports from Japan. My parents were able to buy a couple of them, but that was about it.
So fast forward 30 years later, Godzilla toys are everywhere, but GI Joe classified figures are not. I'm actually fortunate enough that I was able to get most of the figures I wanted, but I also had a very frustrating time finding Baroness as well, and I refuse to give money to scalpers no matter how badly I want the figure. All I can say is that if you love GI Joe, be patient and don't give up. I think Hasbro really messed up with getting GI Joe into our hands but I believe that they are learning from their mistakes. They're seeing the overwhelming demand for GI Joe so I'm sure in the future (and these things take time) they will produce enough figures for everyone.

Nope, you are not alone. I have found it very hard to stay interested (not even 'excited') about this line. To date, I have still only seen Wave One Snake Eyes, Roadblock, Duke, and Scarlett - and wave two Roadblock - in store. The figures I really want - Cobra Trooper, Baroness, and Destro are never to be seen. Really makes me not care. Hasbro has shot themselves in the foot - but I think even they don't care.

Follow those two Facebook pages and tune into their live streams when they have them. Also check this site for info. That way you know what is coming out and when. Then you can hopefully order on time and quickly on Hasbro Pulse, BBTS, or Amazon. As for the Target exclusives. Find their DPCI numbers either on here or Target's web site and when the street dates gets near start looking them up on Popfindr. And head to the stores that have them at 7:00 AM or whenever they open on the street date. Don't be afraid to nicely ask a clerk for them and give them the DPCI number and tell them that you know they have them in stock. I've gotten most of my stuff off of Hasbro Pulse. My Regal Cobra Commander came today from them. Sure I've had to wait months. I ordered that figure back in like June. Hopefully the rumors are true and we actually see figures on shelves come next year. But I doubt it. Hasbro hasn't gotten any better with Star Wars so I doubt they will with Joe. P.S. The attached picture is of a few of the figures next to me on my desk that I got this year. All via Hasbro Pulse but two that I went and asked for at Target. And if you want to get rid of the "blasters" and Nerf guns that these new figures are coming with and arm them with real weapons go on BBTS and pre-order the weapons sets from Valaverse. I haven't seen a gijoe (classified or retro) figure on the shelves for probably 5-6 months.
In fact, I have only seen 1 retro figure, ever, on the pegs.. that was in the sidekick display the first week they hit back in July or whatever. I have seen a handful of hiss tanks. But I'll admit I don't shop at Wal-Mart, so my chances to see retro figures are very slim. And i am not looking for them because they suck. The only classified figures I have seen in the stores were the target exclusives, and that's because I knew they were there and showed up at the right time and asked an employee to bring some out from back. That was probably early August. I don't think this can be blamed on demand because they probably only shipped 1 case to each store.. so it's not like people are buying them all up... it's that there are very few being made. Most likely they had problems with Chinese factories |

I haven’t seen a classified Joe on pegs in a while but I was lucky enough to get all of the CI joes (including Baroness) at retail and wave 1, 2, and the exclusive SE and CC from Hasbro pulse. I got my Amazon exclusive Storm Shadow without a hitch but understand the frustration of my fellow collectors because preordering sucks. If you are still looking for wave 1 and 2 check hasbro pulse as they frequently restock them
