I've held on to a small quantity of joes for when I inevitably had a kid to play with them, now have a son going on three and I'd like to increase the collection.
Any tips as far as bargain shopping and so on, which I know is already very hard for collectible items. I'm fine with banged up boxes, even sometimes paying a bit over MSRP depending on the toy. Wondering also if there are any sets that stand out as being flush through the years so aren't as expensive. only interested in 3.75 figs/vehicles I'm missing one of the five Build the M.A.S.S. device sets, I imagine that is going to be very hard to find, I really should've tracked that down back when they were in the stores. Any advice welcome |

Well, that depends on the era.
If you're looking for the most bang for your buck, and these are intended to be used, either the "new sculpt" era (G.I. Joe Vs Cobra, Spy Troops, Valor Vs Venom), or some of the more common 25th anniversary line will be your best bet. The line based on the "Rise of Cobra" movie also tend to be very cheap. They're not what most collectors are after, but they're perfect for play. There's also the new Retro line, which has potential (even though it has many design and distribution issues at present.) ARAH and any of the figures from "Pursuit of Cobra" and later are much more sought after by collectors, and as such, tend to be far more expensive. There are deals to be had, but as playthings, I'd say they're pretty cost prohibitive. One option would be to go year by year at Yojoe.com (while they're still in operation, anyway), and see what was released, then follow up on eBay with the ones you're interested in to get an idea of the going rate.

I agree with Sataninjaku. Your best value is probably 25th anniversary stuff. It simply isn't in high demand and there is a lot of it out there. They are fine for play, unless you are just deadset on having O-ring designs.

Any idea on the build the mass device 5 of 5? I just looked through storage, have the first four
Also I read somewhere that there were optional mass device pieces in 3 of the minifigs, hoping to eventually find these at decent enough prices, no rush, just curious on the pricing, it's hard for me to even find an entry for the 5 of 5 thing. Is there a universal catalogue somewhere with MSRP etc like brickset is for LEGO? Also, and thanks for the patience... (Maybe this would require it's own thread later?) I was curious about good good guy/bad guy stock minifigs like on amazon or anywhere, I know there are many brands but I was curious if anyone had experience on good quality/value that are the same size as 25th joes..... I've taken an inventory and surprisingly have a good bit of stuff, but I only have a single pack of joe troop builder and single pack of cobra troop builder (both target exclusive IIRC) Last edited by ColonelJack; 11-24-2020 at 12:58 PM.. |

FYI, "minifig" generally refers to Lego (or Lego-style) 1.5" tall toys. The 3.75" to 4" tall G.I. Joes are just "action figures."

Three single-carded figures came with full element containers: -Cobra Commander with red crystals -Tripwire with yellow meteor dust -Cobra Diver with heavy water As for other toy lines in the same 3.75"/4"/1:18 scale as the 25th Joes: Fortnite, Spin Masters DC Heroes Unite/Batman and Halo from Jazwares are good'uns.

Mass device pack 5 was hard to find even when it came out. I never saw it in the store. I received the final beam emitter piece separate from the rest of the set as a gift. I think the giver had to go to ebay to find it even then.

Thanks, that's gonna be really tough then, really wanted to find the final 5th box and the three figs with the filled vials, will have to hunker down and hope for the best there.
Say, is there any ongoing subscription thing for GI Joe? To get regular figs/vehicles by mail or whatever? Thanks again for all the help guys |
