I received a TFA version of the Millennium Falcon radar dish in the mail today, so modeling has now begun. It is still just an early "sketch" of the overall form:

I calculated the proper radius for the curve and added some detail to the front (still very rough):

I slapped a connection on the rear of the sequel trilogy radar dish model I am working on so that I can use it on the POTF and vintage Millennium Falcon versions. The print finish is a bit rough at the moment because I didn't do much to smooth down the areas where support material was attached, but here it is:
This dish is too large presently (the dimensions are based on the "BMF" version of the Millennium Falcon which is larger in every way) and, of course, I haven't finished the detail work yet. I have ordered a lighter grey filament to use for some prints of both versions of the dish once I get the designs finalized. I'm pretty pleased with the results so far.

I have pretty much completed the front details now:
And I am working on the rear details in earnest at this point:

Thanks! And yes, probably. I need to upload it and see what the price ends up being.

My new filament color arrived for the radar dish project. Here is my latest test print of my drop-in replacement TFA/TLJ/ROS radar dish for the vintage and POTF versions of the Millennium Falcon:
I need to lengthen the mounting peg a bit and test fit some screws to hold it all together like the original part does with a rivet but it's a good fit overall. And here are some comparison pictures with the 2020 release of the "BMF" Millennium Falcon radar dish for the sequel trilogy: As you can see, I had to "dumb down" the vents on the back of the dish for my printer to handle them and I still have the size and position of some of the details a little bit off. I might just call it "good enough" on this one anyway though.

Side note: eBay is forcing me onto "managed payments" by the end of the year or else kicking me off of eBay. I knew this was coming eventually, but I didn't realize what it entailed until a few days ago. I'm not going to be giving those incompetent dopes my social security number under any circumstances, so my eBay shop will be finished for good by the end of December.
Shapeways will remain up and running unless/until they decide to shut down their independent shops. My home-printed items, many of which are not offered on Shapeways due to their pricing, will become unavailable. I'm debating setting up my own website to sell repro and custom parts, but that's still up in the air. If anyone viewing this thread is interested in my parts, send me a PM here on the 'Tank and/or keep an eye out for me to open up a web shop if and when that ever happens.

I haven’t forgotten you, and I still have a list of items I wanna get, but all my Joe items I was wanting to upgrade are still boxed away and we’ve got another baby due literally next month, so... it may be awhile till I get around to it. Just not a priority to dig out boxes of toys to fix, and then pack away (with everything else going on at the moment!).
Still love following this thread though, and plan to get quite a few upgrades from you for my WHALE and STUN, plus more, at some point. I have a buddy who also wants to can his eBay shop because of this managed payments bullshit. How bad is eCrater on charges? |
