I had hoped for restock. Hell, I've seen transformer seeker two pack restocked 4 times so why wouldn't Hasbro do the same for another in house IP? At this point, I'm prepping for the next wave to be the same shit. My 2nd Baroness will be trade bait for a pair of vipers.

The solution to this is so simple: let Target decide how many it wants to offer casual fans in-store. Then, do an open pre-order for fans on the Target site, but a longer-lead one where they will be made in the quantity ordered, plus however many Target wants in-store. It’s the same philosophy they used for Oopsie Cobra Commander, but on the retailer’s site so that the retailer gets the full value it wants from its exclusive.
That way, Target makes bank from all the army builders’ pre-orders, everybody else gets what they want, and Target doesn’t even have to add a captcha to the site, because the factory will just make to order. All you have to do is say “no cancellations” due to the fact that yours will literally be made for you, so bots can’t order thousands and then dump them back on the store or manufacturer when they realize most people already got what they want, while anyone who wasn’t paying attention will have a shot in-store. It’s bad for Hasbro (and Neca, etc) to have their awesome figures so hard to find at Target. I realize Target likes the foot traffic that hard-to-find figures bring in, and that Hasbro wants to please a large and powerful client, but at a certain point Hasbro (and Neca, etc) is really harming their brand by making such great stuff so impossible and stressful to find. Target is effectively damaging the Joe brand in order to drive foot traffic, which is not a fair deal for Hasbro. In the long run, Hasbro needs easy access to product and low customer stress if it wants to thrive. Last edited by books; 10-19-2020 at 12:06 PM.. |

NECA is giving up on Target as the sole way to get some of its figures. They have been steadily offering made to order preorders of all their Turtles stuff over the last few months.
I expect the April/Casey wave to go up for a NECA preorder early next year. As for Hasbro, they generally give their Target exclusives to other retailers (usually EE or BBTS types) about a year after they were exclusive to Target.

So, a possible glimmer of hope where Target online is concerned. I was listening to the podcast the Fwoosh did with Randy Falk from NECA today and during that interview Randy mentioned that NECA has had conversations with Target about the need to beef up their day of offerings, so that bots don't get to snatch up all of the stock so quickly. Now I'm not saying Hasbro has also had the same conversations, but if you look at how long Transformers Thrust and Runabout lasted recently, we could be seeing signs that when the next Cobra Island figures go up, they'll be easier to secure before sell outs happen.

I think Thrust lasted because the scalpers realized that the Seeker two pack (Thundercracker and Skywarp) wasn't a great investment, so maybe Transformers aren't going to produce 100% or more returns. Classified has yet to calm down because supply is still not meeting demand, or even close.

In the long run, Hasbro needs easy access to product and low customer stress if it wants to thrive. There is an MOQ that needs to be hit for any item to be produced. Target isn’t in the business of taking the time to create an item, solicit sales, take preorders and risk that if the MOQ isn’t ordered it will be cancelled and they will have wasted that time and resources for nothing. They place an order for x amount and sell it. Toys are a minuscule part of their business, and one specific character of one specific line is virtually meaningless. There is nothing simple about changing their business model for that virtually meaningless opportunity. I understand we, the collectors, face disappointment when we don’t get what we want. But abandoning reason, and making ridiculous suggestions isn’t the solution. |
