I find as a "modern collector" (i.e., an adult and no longer a child) I just can't bring myself to clip the file cards. Not implying immaturity on the part of anyone who does, but for my part I just can't do it as I'd rather have as pristine and complete of a card as possible. I find that they sell better on the after market as well because you get a complete character illustration on the front.

I loved cutting out the flag points. I think I sent away for a surfboard, parachute and the fridge. Wish I’d kept them. I guess they don’t do the proof of purchase stuff any more.
And I finally bought a baroness in the local Walmart. Just her, all on her own. No other joes or anything around. I asked a couple employees if they had more in back because brickseek showed they did. He pretty much said they might but they had so many palettes to unload he couldn’t go searching. He told me to rifle through the palettes on the floor but nothing there. I think you’re right that Covid may have knocked things out of wack. Toys probably are low pri when there are limited stockers available in the store. Anyway, I was excited to actually spot a retro toy in the wild. I hope they get more plentiful.

I remember I'd have my mom read me filecards before bedtime sometimes, instead of a book lol

I went into a walmart to get some groceries and decided to ask a toy stocker if they had any GI JOE stuff. He said he has 3 or 4 people asking him every few days. Since they had just set the new modular display, I asked him to scan the retro figures barcode to see if there are any in stock. To his surprise he said he showed there were some in the back. I waited for about 10 minutes and
he comes out with a giant box. It ended up being the end cap display of Wave 1! He open it and it had 3 wave 1 assortments. He said he had to remove them from the display box and put them on the new modular display. I bought the figures I needed and he gave me the end cap display box since he could not use it. I wonder if these had been sitting in the back for months because the toy manager did not have a place to put them? Maybe Hasbro is shipping more end caps and wave 1 now because the cv19 virus delayed distribution? Quote:
It just occurred to me today as I was clipping and saving some new file cards for the G.I. Joe Retro line that these are of different sizes.
The vehicle driver file cards are much closer to the 25th Anniversary file cards of the modern collections, and the single carded figures come with one slightly larger for some reason. When I listened to Cecil Cates with Hasbro branding talk about the new packaging during the recent Hasbro Pulse Con, I don’t remember him mentioning that, nor do I remember that being mentioned during any recent reviews of these toys. No big deal, I guess, but it just seems a little odd that all the file cards for this Walmart G.I. Joe Retro line wouldn't be of the same size. Ok,I gotta stop giving the mustache a hard time. It probably wasn't his fault. It probably was a factory error, and they didn't have time to correct it. I know the mustache will not mess up the next wave. We know this line has minimal new tooling, so we know he can make Duke by putting 50th Duke's head or Ren. Duke's head on a 50th Flint's build painted in V1 Duke colors with the 25th Duke Bandolier. We know he can use the Ultimate CC figure with the hooded head, painted in V2 colors. We just know he won't mess up those figures.

I recall as a boy my parents wanted me to read more so they encouraged me to read Hardy Boys mystery novels, which I almost universally hated. But when I discovered comic books and file cards I was in heaven and you couldn't tear me away from reading! Love the various stories about what file cards and flag points have meant to people over the years.

Managed to find Retro wave 2 on pegs this weekend- all cards rolled and some rolled so hard that the bubbles were coming loose from the card. I picked up all three but plan to keep the rolled carded versions as openers, as I have them coming on pristine cards either from Ebay or a collector buddy. Finding wave 2 was all the more strange because we never had wave 1 where I'm at. Looks like whatever went on with wave 1 is getting corrected for wave 2. Fortunately (unlike with the Mattel Masters Origins roll out) Joe product appears to be moving briskly. I've seen a few HISS lingering for whatever reason, but figures and the AWE move quickly. The poor Masters product lingers like crazy here and I can't help but feel like Mattel has shot themselves in the face (again) by overstocking shelves for a line that kids have no connection to. But I disgress.... The MOTU line is selling pretty good here. All five Wal Marts only have a few He Mans and Skeletors left on those end caps. I do feel that when they offer full cases of Skeletor and He Man that it will eventually cause a huge clogging of the shelves . Adjust your cases back to 12 figures and just have your 11 and 12 figs be one of each to keep the evergreen main bad guy and good guy on the pegs. We all know the big box stores are going to eventually over order the two main characters. |

Can verify that wave 2 has showed up in MN.
Store I got them to dig them out from the back for me had one employee said they aren’t supposed to be put out until 10/15, but we got another employee who brought out a case that turned out to be wave 2 and let me buy some anyways. They did have a peg set up for them. |

Recently I've seen more MOTU on the shelves including the secondary figures for the first time. Joes are still missing despite what brickseek says.

Seen ALOT of MOTU figures, and not just he man and skeletor.
Reading the file cards helped me remember the characters' real names, particularly the Joes.
