I think we all agree that Target's Classified stock has sucked (Cobra Island mostly) by why? They use the same 2 per customer limits that Walmart and Pulse are using but they're selling out in seconds and never coming back seemingly. Pulse and Walmart not only sell out considerably slower but they almost always come back in stock. Deluxe Cobra Commander is already back on Pulse and Walmart Retro are still in stock right now minus Scarlett that must have just sold out today. Is Target doing something wrong or are they getting short-changed on products?

They put a very limited quantity up for preorder. They prioritize stocking stores over online sales, so it makes it very hard to preorder from them. They also seem to cancel more preorders than Walmart (which is saying something) because they don't really have dedicated online/preorder stock. They just assume they will be able to fill online orders from stock sent to stores.
It makes it very hard to get things from them without hunting it down in stores. And your mileage may vary considerably on how easy that is.

Target also has no mechanism for stopping/slowing down bots. So you have bots buying orders of two apiece a hundred times in a minute.

I think the bot problem may be a little overrated, particularly compared to people who buy the figures in stores and then immediately put them on eBay. I think the real issue is that only a few hundred figures are put up for preorder. If they put up the same 2,000+ figures that Pulse and others do, then I imagine the experience would be largely the same.

The title of this thread alone made me smile.
I agree with all the posts on here. Personally, I would like to know how people were able to see and order the Viper at 5:02 when I tried multiple phrases and first got the results to appear at 5:14 when everything was sold out. |

It's also how they sell out so fast. And not just Cobra Island. Things that stayed in stock for a while on Amazon and Walmart were gone in seconds on Target, too.

I actually have no idea what Hasbro's incentive is for handing Target these exclusives. It is clear Target doesn't order enough to meet demand. Hasbro could be making so much more money selling these figures via other avenues.
Want specifics? Until today, I have been checking Popfindr and Target's website (just to be safe) for Baroness stock ever since the original street date. I live in the Grand Rapids, MI area. Of all the stores within 50 miles of me, there were only a grand total of SIX Baroness figures that made it to the stores. 54th St and Clyde Park - 2 in one shipment then 1 in another. 44th St (River Town) - 2 in one shipment. I forget which other store it was but there was another shipment of 1 at some point. I finally gave in yesterday and paid $100 for one on EBay because I know the price is just going to go back up again now that it is clear they won't make the Cobra Island figures available by other means. At least now I don't have to check Target stock twice per day every day. Ha. Target doesn't order enough of these figures to meet demand. Not even close. There are never figures on the pegs except the occasional Roadblock. There might be some places around the country where people had an easier time finding these figures but it sure wasn't here in West Michigan. |

There are never figures on the pegs except the occasional Roadblock. There might be some places around the country where people had an easier time finding these figures but it sure wasn't here in West Michigan. Meeting demand means they produced enough that everyone that wants one can get one. The issue here is that there's a "middleman" in the reseller market that buys them at retail and marks them up for resale. You have to include all of those available on EBay or wherever when you're calculating whether enough product was made to meet demand. Whether you're willing to pay the reseller markup or not is irrelevant to that calculation. If say, 100K people want the Baroness w/ COIL and 100K were manufactured, demand was met regardless of whether resellers snapped up 95K of them or not. Because otherwise you're saying Hasbro should produce enough that resellers get tapped out buying them all up and then there's still plenty left over on shelves. Which basically means pegwarmers, and would kill the line with a quickness when the resellers returned all the ones they snapped up. Last edited by Jmacq1; 09-28-2020 at 10:37 AM.. |
