Hell, just using the commando head in the SAME TOOLING would have been enough, but they STILL managed to screw that up.
I get the feeling that Retro is going to become our Vintage Collection. It will play it safe focusing on previously released product. Though, given wave 2 at least features remixed parts, it might not be AS BAD as TVC. If Hasbro selects good options, there could be some life in the line given the apparent unending desire to get stuff on vintage-ish card backs.

Agreed Stevie. Wave 1 had me really questioning some choices; Snake eye's head choice and the entire Storm Shadow figure, wave 2 has me questioning a few choices too. Despite the library of parts out there I still feel like I needed to customizes these a bit further before they are great.
Who else deserves consideration as being a definitive version right out the package?

POC Snake Eyes, Low-Light, Shadow Tracker and Cobra Trooper Retaliation Ultimate Cobra Commander 30th Sci-Fi and Lifeline Renegades Storm Shadow (for what he is) I'd agree with you on retaliation Ultimate SS, but might argue slightly on Ultimate SE - I switched the head from the movie version it came with to POC SE with a visor Last edited by Dod Ear; 09-14-2020 at 10:17 PM.. |

I think Wave 2 is great. Not perfect, but an improvement on Wave 1.
There was a lot of speculation as to whether Hasbro could use tooling paid for by the club. I think the new head on RB answers that they cannot. Not having another suitable headsculpt in the catalog they made one that matched Classified rather than try and make a classic like the club already released. Makes sense. When the 50th female Cobra Officer was released I heavily criticized the torso sculpt. This was some of the first tooling not done by BFS sculptors and it showed. That said, it works really well for Scarlett. Since they used that torso that likely meant had to use the same arms. I appreciate that made new gloved hands (way better than the originals hands) - but that also meant they could do the classic long glove for her with the pre-existing forearms. The new head look's great - I think it's best modern Scarlett head we've gotten. The resolute legs give a taste of just how good the Resolute body would look in classic colors - but I'm fine overall with what's coming. Destro isn't a total waste as it might appear - the grey on the belt / boots is the Sunbow colors. I loved when they released the Sunbow colors during 25th in the DVD Battle Pack (https://www.yojoe.com/action/08/destro18.shtml). I'm glad to have it now on the 50th sculpt. All in all really happy and looking forward to what comes next. Edit: here it is: https://news.hisstank.com/2016/04/07...revealed-58778 Also, for what it’s worth, the Scarlett Renegades arms work With that torso with some proper lowers.

From a profit margin perspective, wave one makes great sense -no new molds and figures are all black or all white pretty much, so they require almost no paint apps except the faces on two of the figures. Make a mint on the first wave to even out future losses. Whatever other choices a design team might have made, business gets the last word. It’s about risk management during a difficult time in the economy.

The RB head used by the Club was actually tooled by Hasbro (there’s some proto shots out there somewhere) and I think the Resolute head works, so I think the decision to make the new head like Classified was deliberate, though not sure why since they didn’t do likewise with Scarlett.
Edit: here it is: https://news.hisstank.com/2016/04/07...revealed-58778 Here is a a post from a July talking about the club and Hasbro: Quote:
I’d love a Club RB repaint - could be the jewel of the whole line.
Was the Club head the same RB shown as an Amazon exclusive with 3 heads that ended up seeing a partial release in The SDCC Resolute RB? Kind of how 50th HNR’s head showed up as a club release first - but actually belonged to Hasbro? Hasbro has never used the club’s tooling for their releases - even when they had a need like 50th Outback. I vaguely remember when Hasbro made TRU exclusive Jurassic Park figures started leaking on Ebay one used the Club’s Adventure Team Joe Colton headsculpt. The club made some mention of how they were surprised and didn’t know Hasbro could do that. The actual retail figure did not use the club sculpt and it could have been a factory test shot as Hasbro and the club used the same factory. Anyway, Hasbro of course has the copyright to the characters but the club paid to designs and create those molds. All that to say Hasbro could do some fantastic things with all the club’s tooling, but there’s no guarantee they have the rights to use them. EDIT: found the link to that Unreleased RB: https://news.hisstank.com/2016/04/07...revealed-58778 It is the same as the club head - so it’s fairly safe to assume it was Hasbro’s to begin with (much like the 50th HNR situation) Last edited by Dod Ear; 09-14-2020 at 10:37 PM.. |

It’s possible, from Hasbro’s perspective, that they’re giving us something new, with the thinking that many of us already have that TF Roadblock and this is a way to encourage us to get this figure, as well. I’d also guess there’s a strong possibility that any tooling owned by the Club may have been acquired by Hasbro, possibly for pennies on the dollar, as without a contract, it would be unusable to the Club any way.
