Hey guys! Does anybody have info of Gi Joe sales from issue #240 -#273? If possible, please put a list here, so we can discuss what affect sales (down or up).
Meanwhile, do you think the art affect sales? |

I don't have any information about book sales, but I can tell you what appeals to me as a reader. I like good stories and reading about my favorite characters. The art isn't really a deal breaker to me, as my sight has been diminishing erratically for some time. Sometimes I can see it, other times I have to "decode" what I'm looking at.

Netho, your art is stellar, and makes me happy to buy TPBs for long term collecting, but I can’t say anyone’s art makes me put a Joe issue back on the rack.

I've never followed sales figures and wouldn't know where to look, but I do believe that art affects sales. Absolutely.
If I'm picking up a title for the first time, the art is the first thing I look at. If it sucks, I'm not going to read it. If I collect a title and the art became less mainstream, it would be very hard for me to stick with the book regardless of the writing. A one off I can handle, but that's about it. I realize that art is subjective, but at the end of the day comics are a business and there's a reason why the best selling titles employ artists with mainstream appeal. If they didn't the books wouldn't sell and publishers would go out of business. Last edited by stopdead; 08-13-2020 at 12:13 PM.. |

Sales info can be found here:
https://www.comichron.com/monthlycomicssales.html Nethro, I think you have to have the perfect combination of art and writing to make a good book. Sales cyles differ, though. in the 90's it was art driving sales with your Lee's, Liefelds, McFarlanes, Adams, etc.. The 2000's was more writing with your Brubakers, Ennis, Morrisons, etc. I guess now it's closer to even with a slight lead on the writing side. |

Correct, Stopdead. These are the sales numbers from IDW's exclusive distributor.
Online sales only account for between 8-9% of physical comics on average. So if a comic sells around 8,000 copies a month like G.I. Joe does, They might at the most sell another 700-800 digital copies. |

The 8-9% number is surprising to me considering how other media (music, movies) is majority digital. I love the convenience of Comixology and haven't purchased a physical book in over a decade. Don't hate me! ;)

I honestly, now, am doing both....digital and physical. The digital is for the quick read ASAP. The physical is for the collector in me and the future plan of having the whole series custom bound

I wish I had that information for you. I was just thinking about you a few days ago and trying to figure out what you are working on right now because I loved your art in the GIJOE series.
