Okay so I was extremely lucky and found all of Wave 2 at Target a couple of days ago and I thought I would do a quick review of the Red Ninja. Let’s just get it out there, when most of us saw pics of this guy many of us( myself included ) were not crazy about such a vast departure from the classic Red Ninja look. Having the figure in my hands, my opinion of the figure itself is very positive; as a classic style Red Ninja not so much. It’s not a classic Red Ninja at all! If you can look past that and appreciate it for what it is and not the name attached, I think you will be pleased.
Sculpt: The sculpt is pretty much the Snake Eyes body, with new head, sash, and web-gear as well as a new back pack( which holds 3 weapons! ). The death mask on the head sculpt is very sinister looking, which is only accentuated by the white eyes. The belt/sash is nice sculpted and also holds 3 weapons. The web-gear armor fits nicely, and has nice little touches like painted on throwing stars. It really is a nice sculpt, that has a menacing and intimidating look about him. I feel it reminds me more of the Night Creepers than the Red Ninja. It is a really nice sculpt. Articulation: Well It’s pretty much the Snake Eyes body so you know what to expect, and it’s a lot! You can pretty much get this guy in just about any pose you want. And he holds all of the weapons very well including his sai( see pics ). Paint Apps: This is where I scratch my head a little. The Red Ninja always had a straight bright red outfit. This guy has a base body that is more maroon or burgundy( depending on your opinion of colors ). Then touches red, black, and grey over that. Again the colors also remind me more of the Night Creeper than a Red Ninja. I almost wonder if the Hasbro designers were trying an amalgam of the 2? The colors are not classic Red Ninja, but they work well, and look decent. I would have gone for more of a dark red base body though. Accessories: Okay this is where this figure shines! He has all of the accessories the deluxe Hasbro Pulse Snake Eyes came with, with the exception of the spear. Long sword, katana, 2 sai, 2 axes, 2 climbing hooks( if that’s what they are ), and red back pack. The guy is armed to the teeth! He holds all his weapons well, and with the exception of the 2 axes they all can be stored on his person. Awesome touch Hasbro! I kind of wish he had any extra set of “karate chopping” hands and maybe a throwing star. But still I’m very happy with his gear. Over all thoughts: This is definitely not a standard classic Red Ninja, and if you can get past that and see it for what it is I think you will be very happy with it. I still think it has more of a Night Creeper vibe, and I’m okay with that as I’ve always liked the Night Creepers. They were one of the best new ideas out of the 90s. It is a very nice figure, not perfect; but a worthy addition to the Classified line. I want 2 or 3 more. Grade: A- Last edited by FlintWO2; 08-13-2020 at 01:38 PM.. |
